Is there a good content management software out there? I'm mostly concerned that it's easy for the end users. Something simple. But when I look at these demos it's almost like it would be easier for the end user to learn Dreamweaver than some of these content managers. Any thoughts or recommendations? Any good experiences. Thanks in advance.

Just like anyone , I want a lot of functionality, but I need something the user will like using. That is probably the most important thing otherwise what is the point. My users are microsoft people and thats about it. They were competent enuff to learn front page, sort of, but I need something they like using and feels good if you know what I mean.

What sort of site is it going to be? Right now, I'm working with Xoops, but it's really more for a community site with forums and what not. If you're looking for more of a corporate site, there are other good ones. I will post some links soon, as I'm working on some CMS stuff myself.

Intranet or Internet content management. Sharepoint is decent for intranet purposes and is a Microsoft product

This is primarily for web site content management. non-profit medical site. Mostly needed for simple content changes (news, membership, conferences, forms, directories, menus, ect..)

If you are just doing straight HTML, I would strongly recommend Macromedia Contribute.

We use CMS (Content Management Server) here, but it's probably more than you need.

ok. Thanks. That hit a good portion of the spectrum and gave me some user friendly versions to demo. Much appreciated. Thanks.

Mambo has been getting pretty good reviews.

Another link:
Open Source CMS

More of a focus on the higher end corporate sector:
CMS Watch

Give us a more specific requirements spec and perhaps links to a few sites that are considered good examples and we can maybe speed up your search.

I think a lot has to do with what you want. If you have a site already built in HTML, the only thing you can really do is use something like Contribute to make changes because it is already encoded. If the site can be built any way you want, your options are all over the map.

There are lots of good CMS programs - Mambo is probably the best freebie out there - but most of them are predicated on your site being in a template that is provided by the CMS. Mambo and PHPNuke are good examples. They have lots of features but limit you to pre-determined styles UNLESS you have pretty extensive skills as a coder. And, if you are, why not just use a better solution without the template, right?

Unfortunately, there is no simple CMS solution and probably won't ever be given the diversity of needs.

Jeff, how do I contact your company - a rebuild (with considerations/recommendation for content management) I'll send you the specs if your company is interested.
