"Some curious votes from coaches on the All-Star teams as Dave Cowens said he voted for Bonzi Wells and Peja Stojakovic and Larry Brown said he voted for Antonio Davis. Some believe coaches, who cannot vote for their own players, vote to position their players, like Antawn Jamison and Aaron McKie, for a better chance by not voting for their rivals."

I had a little respect for Dave Cowens, even after he quit on the Hornets a few years ago. But how the hell do you vote for BONZIE WELLS. A vote for Stockton or Francis would have been much more deserving. This is a vote that could potentially cost Francis a hard earned spot on the team. I always thought there was a certain sense of legitimacy with the coaches voting for the reserve.

Sorry I missed this post...

No doubt Cowens was doing that for Jamison -- not a doubt in my mind. It can help a coach a great deal for a player to become an All-star (head swelling not withstanding). Whether the refs admit it or not, All-Stars get the respect with the whistles...

It's no more idiotic than any of the fans that voted for Alonzo Mourning, Grant Hill, Hakeem Olajuwon, or any other player not deserving of a spot.

It's worse R95 when a coach's vote carries much more weight than 1 vote out of millions for fans. We're talking about selecting the reserves, right? Sorry, didn't bother to read the article.

I don't understand why a coach shouldn't be able to vote for his own player. I thought the coach of the team picked the reserves.
