basically what it said was there were two people helped him to realize his responsibility. one of them is van gundy, the other is a rockets fan.

at the practise session last friday, van gundy showed them the clips from their dallas game, especially the ones yao played aggreessively and got better results. yao was pumped by that.

after that yao went to a chinese resturant opposite the toyota center having lunck. before paying his bill he was told it was taken care of by another customer, an african-american lady. then she approached him and said something like "i know that the rockets are not doing very well recently but we'll ALWAYS support you. win some more games for us." yao was touched and told himself the only thing he can do is to help the rockets to win, for the fans.

seems like I've heard this before...Yao doesn't (or shouldn't) need anyone telling him how important he is to the franchise...he should be well aware by now.

However, the one thing this article does tell me is that VG needs to take a different approach to how he gets through to Yao

When it comes to "motivation" everyone has different buttons that have to be pressed. Any good manager know that. Everyone is different.

I think it is MORE than clear that Yao responds to POSITIVE reinforcement. JVG needs to realize this and use it. You can BET that Phil Jackson would realize it.

I still have faith that things can be corrected. Van Gundy is relentless and will eventually get thru to Yao. Yao will realize as did Neo that he is the "One". He will bring balance back to the force.

I thinkYao has put out the effort. The problem, until the last two games, was the refs. If they treat the big man fairly, the way they have in the past two games, I think you will get a consistent 20/10 from Yao.

Van Gundy film clips. Nice lady lunch trips. I think the Ref's are the variable factor.

Now I know what Yao's problem is - HE'S EATING AT CHINA GARDEN!

That's the only chinese restaurant "across from Toyota Center" (yes I do know about Chinatownm on the other side of 59). I've gotten sick from the food at that place.

Yao - go to Bellaire for Chinese, bot China Garden! It's making you weak!
