Some weeks back, someone had started a thread about free stuff, and I mentioned those free ipod sites and the fact that I was expecting mine anytime.

Well, it's about 2 weeks longer than I had expected, but I finally have my iPod in my hands ... for ABSOLUTELY free! It's awesome!

For those who are still skeptical, I put together this little page that should help alleviate any concerns:

How Mo got his iPod!!

I know Dave and Jeff (+ crew) frown on links, so I won't post any here ... but if anyone is interested, feel free to email me through here.

It really does work ... save $300, wait for a bit and get it free!!!

Adios, g'night!

which of the original offers did you sign up for?

Hmm...I noticed the "R" on your tab. Are you a Radium guy? If so... well, thanx for the memories. Sure would like to know what's new with that crew.

So you have to get 5 friends along with yourself to sign up for a free trial of something, do you have to give up a credit card number at any point?

Alright ...

So I signed up originally through FreeIpods.com and although they're good (obviously, I got the product), they're pretty damn big so the service takes a bit longer.

There are newer sites being offered by a company called OfferCentric, who are also legit. Again, I have recieved a check for $375 thru their cameras4free.com site and am awaiting on an iRiver H320 thru mp3players4free.com <-- They seem to be much faster.

On freeipods, I signed up for the Ancestry.com offer which was very easy to cancel, and on the OfferCentric sites I signed up for Netscape and Blockbuster, respectively.

Blockbuster is VERY easy to signup for and cancel ... you can do it online. No hassles, and you get 2 free movie rental coupons to use in-store.

Netscape ... another easy cancel. I have also heard that AOL is very easy to cancel now too.

Most all sites do require a credit card, but if you're signing up for the large companies, you know you'll be safe. I have yet to see a single penny charged anywhere.

The only offers that do not require a credit card are the credit card offers themselves, but they take the longest to get verified. Blockbuster/Netscape/AOL are generally credited to your account within 2 days.

Once you've signed up, just have to get 5 friends at UNIQUE addresses to complete an offer and you're golden.

If anyone is interested, instead of signing up thru a blank link, maybe you can help someone else in the process, let me know ...

Adios!

Still receiving my free Maxim, FHM, Stuff, and Forbes. Whoever set that up a year ago very nice job. If you find anymore please post the Free magazine sign ups. No credit card was ever entered for these and I'm still shocked I got something for nothing. Very cool.

It actually wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. And I didn't have any pics or anything to convince them ... it was just my word.

I got about 20 folks to sign up (5 each for 2 mp3players, and about 8+ for the free Sony DigiCam) Now that I have this, I'm going to try and get the Flatscreen :-D

A lotta my friends who signed up and couldn't get anyone to sign up, used the page I made and have had great success so far ... about 90% completion rate.

Credit card info is a bit touchy for folks, but I think tons of folks shop online, and if you're giving your info on reputable sites, it should be ok.

Good luck if you decide to do it ... go with mp3players4free.com ... highly recommend it.

Yeah, your post finally convinced me to go for it.

Just got one of my friends to do it, signed up for an extra offer myself, and will probably e-mail my dad later.

In essence, this is just a way to get junk email addresses from people for the purposes of marketing. I would never in a million years give out my credit card to any company without knowing who they were and their reputation no matter what I thought I was getting for free.

I'm tempted to sign up for a bunch of these using a debit/credit card, call the company to tell them it was lost and have another one issued so that old number can never be used. That way, I'm guaranteed they won't try and use it.

Ok, I did some research on this stuff. I could not figure out how in the world they were making any money. I mean, according to Offer Centric (the biggest one of the bunch), they don't spam or sell your email and they don't send you junk mail.

Then I found a couple articles on it and I realized that this is kinda like a magazine club. You get X number of magazines or newspapers for free but they send you like 20 others and you have to cancel them before they charge you for them. When you call to cancel, they give you a hard sell and make you jump through a couple of hoops to do it.

Obviously, it takes work to convince your friends to do it for you. That's the problem. I could see getting 5 people to do it, but to get the 10 or 15 you need for something more?

Also, many of these sites will give you cash instead of the item if you request it.

I dunno, man. I might could see myself squeezing an iPod out of my friends, but as one girl put it in an article I read about the service, "It's borderline not worth it" just because I'd have to listen to people bitching about how I got them signed up for some crappy magazine they didn't want and now they're stuck with.

Oh, and read the fine print. Once you sign up, you CANNOT CANCEL. You are on their list for life - for better or worse. Most people keep a clause in their Terms and Conditions that says "these terms and conditions may change at any time without notice" meaning they could decide to sell the lists later or they could change any other policy at any time in the future as long as they give reasonable time to people to re-read the terms.

So, careful.

Hmmm ... they don't send you anything afterwards ... and the "they" (Offer Centric) aren't making any money unless you signup for a service. They way they make their money is by you signing up for these offers. The companies actually pay a decent amount of money for advertising, and using that money ... they give you an incentive and they keep the rest.

OfferCentric is just the middleman ... they don't have anything to sell.

From my perspective, it's perfectly fine. I haven't been spammed, I haven't been charged a penny, I haven't had any trouble cancelling any accounts, and I've recieved all the advertised products ... no hassle ... and have ONLY recieved the products, no junk mail, nada, zilch.

I would just say that don't discount it just because you THINK something might happen ...

About cancelling ... there really is nothing to cancel ... you never really give your information to OfferCentric, other than an email. Everything else is given to the outside vendors. Offercentric has nothing on you except an email. So use your spam email if you're concerned about that

twhy77: hahahaha .. yeah man, it has been awhile since I've updated my page, ages really.

That's why I sign up for the companies who I know are reputable. The Blockbusters, AOLs, Netscapes, Vonage, etc are not going to compromise your information.

No direct link, but you are still clearly trying to enlist more people through this board to help you gain free merchandise by making this (borderline) scam seem risk free.

You don't have to go to all that trouble. Discover and Citibank allow you to generate one-time use credit card numbers over the web.
