"I'm very happy to be here. I realize what this franchise means. I want to bring a championship to the city of Houston. There's been a lot of hard work over the last few hours to try and get this deal done. I just hope we put as much hard work on the floor this season. I'm just looking forward to the season. The fans here have been very supportive of me being in Houston. I want to thank you guys for sticking around and waiting."

Cheryl Miller: Scottie, has it been hard working in with the new team at all?

Scottie Pippen: No, it hasn't. I think these guys make my transition coming in really easy. They welcomed me and the opportunity to come in and sort of step in where Clyde (Drexler) was a year ago has been an easy transition for me. I've enjoyed the opportunity of coming and training with Charles and Hakeem and playing for Rudy (Tomjanovich), and it's a great opportunity for me to play with a great center and also a great power forward — two future Hall of Famers.

Miller: So you're telling me that Charles actually made your transition easy?

Pippen: Yes, pretty easy. Very easy. (laughter)

Miller: In '93, you two (Scottie and Charles) went toe-to-toe in the Finals. Six years later playing on the same team, did you think that would ever happen?

Pippen: I was hoping some day I'd have the opportunity to play with Charles. I think he's a guy that comes out, he plays hard, he's a gamer. I had the opportunity to play with him in two Olympics and at All-Star Games so I know the total package he brings to the game.

Miller: What are some of the things people don't know about Charles?

Pippen: I think people just don't know the mentality of how hard he really works and the package he brings to the game. You know he's never been voted to the All-Defensive Team, but it may be to the point where people just don't understand what type of defense he plays. I think he is a great team defensive player, maybe just not a one-on-one individual defender. I think he brings a lot to the team from a team defensive standpoint — being able to go and help out and block shots.

Miller: Scottie you have six rings. Hakeem, you have two. Is this season the "Win one for Charles" year?

Pippen: I feel like it. I think having Charles really campaign to get me here shows me that he wants to win a championship. I'm one of those players that when June comes, I want to be still playing and Charles deserves to have a championship. He has had a great career, and he's one of the top players in a lot of categories in the game. He deserves to have a championship, and I'd love to have the opportunity to say I helped him win it.

Miller: Scottie, you've won six championships, is it important to you to win one without Michael?

Pippen: It's important from a personal standpoint, but I think this organization has invested a lot in me to come here and put this team back at a championship level. I want to feel like it's my responsibility to get them there, and I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure this team gets to a championship level.

Thanks for nothing Scottie.

I have to say, as much as a Pippen's basketball Fan, he is making it easy for people to think him as classless. Even though, to me, NBA is just a business, there are lines one should never cross. His reply to Charles's ESPN interview from yesterday was way too nasty. Man, I am speechless, I am shocked to see any public figure would let such ugly side shown on TV. It only hurts their own reputation. Pippen owes Charles an appology, just for what he said today.

Clutch, you've outlined Pippen's transition from human to schlub in an accurate, pinpoint manner. His behavior the last couple of months proves that he is absolutely nothing when he isn't hanging onto Michael Jordan's coattails. I like the 6 for 1 trade with Portland and I hope it goes down soon. Pippen is toast in this city, and when the Jailblazers come to the Compaq Center I hope some fan nails Pippen in the face with a tomato!

Traitor!!!!! He is a punk looking for an easy way out. I wish his contract was smaller so we could keep him and make him ride the pine all season. This guy needs a little humility. It's pretty clear that he has TURNED HIS BACK ON HOUSTON!! It makes me sick to even say he is/was a rocket. F***ing baby!!!! Waaaa.... Waaaaaaaaaa.

Yes--kudos to Clutch for putting everything in perspective.

I hate to compare you to Blinebury in the same post where I'm praising you, but I also enjoyed his commentary on the punk.

Great post Clutch. Really makes you realize how pathetic this guy really is. He only says what he thinks will serve him at the moment, no regard for the team.

I think Pippen needs to see a psychologist. He obviously has a lot of anger within him. If things don't go his way, he is the first to attack anyone but himself. It's never his fault...it's always someone elses. That dude has problems. But I still think none of this would be going on if Charles would have just talked to Pippen in private and left the media out of it. Pippen is thinking that if your going to demand apologies and make me look bad on public TV, then I'm going to take my swing right back. And was it coincidence that he would be interviewed the very next day after the Up-Close Charles interview? Pip was probably begging for that interview so he could blast Barkley. I'm surprised he didn't blast Hakeem while he was at it. Pip is not a man...he is a child in a man's body. Only a child could behave the way Pip has. A man would respond by seeing his wrong and making amends both on and off the court. But he is so far above all that with his 6 rings and all...it must be someone else's wrongdoing! He probably thinks he's the most committed and best player in the NBA since MJ left. Yeah...when pigs fly. I hope Portland can deal with all his BS.

Clutch-Great post!!
I have to tell you,I was totally shocked when I turned on ESPN and heard the comments come out of Scotties mouth.I have stuck by Scottie this off season and really hoped that he would step it up,but I now realize that he is not worthy to wear the Rockets uniform or represent the city of Houston. What a major dissapointment!!
I also think that Scottie is trying to add fuel to the fire, which will in turn get him out of Houston even faster.......for that I say "Thanks Scottie" and dont let the door hit you on the way out!!

Clutch, thanks again for the fantastic job you do. When I got home late, and my wife turned and told me Peepee's comments, my high spirits all day about Anderson's signing crashed through the floor. This guy is a cancer. get him out of here as fast as possible. I don't know if Charles' will ever "get his ring", but watching his team play and committment to be his best last year tells me he's a man, something Scottie Peepee may never experience. I am sorry that Houston, Rudy and the Rockets team poured so much energy into this selfish black hole of a worm. There's so much more I could say...time to turn the page. Welcome Shandon, Francis, welcome the 99-2000 Rockets. We'll be OK....and we'll be a TEAM...

Think about all the things you said about Pippen that are now true in an entirely different way:

"Pippen's a money player".

"You can count on Pippen".

"When the chips are down, Scottie will come through".

"He's a terrific shooter. Get him the ball and he'll cash it in".

"Pippen just has such a wealth of knowledge about the game".

"He can check anybody!"

"He really is the glue that bonds a team together-- I mean, you can totally put stock in his leadership".

"He makes the game funds to watch!"

OK, my apologies for the last one.

Excellent post! Scottie Pippen showed no class and disrespect for team.

Just FYI, I called the Rocket office and put my two cents in. The lady I spoke with said so has many others.

Trade em -- Go Rockets!

Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
