I'm looking for a new car (1st time ever!) and I need your help in narrowing it down a little bit by telling me how good auto makers are. I've listed most of the ones I can think of below and put an N/A beside the ones that I cannot afford. So if you will please rank them from 1-5. 5 being "Great" and 1 being "Don't Even Think About It." You can help me further narrow it down by saying which model(s) are good under the manufacturer(s) you list as good or great and telling why you gave certain manufacturer(s) a poor rating. Please help me narrow my search and here is the list: Acura - N/A AM General Aston Martin - N/A Audi - N/A Bentley - N/A BMW - N/A Buick Cadillac - N/A Chevrolet Chrysler Daewoo Dodge Eagle Ferrari - N/A Ford Geo GMC Honda Hummer - N/A Hyundai Infiniti - N/A Isuzu Jaguar - N/A Jeep Kia Lamborghini - N/A Land Rover - N/A Lexus - N/A Lincoln - N/A Maybach - N/A Mazda Mercedes-Benz - N/A Mercury MINI Mitsubishi Nissan Oldsmobile Plymouth Pontiac Porsche - N/A Rolls Royce - N/A Saab Saturn Scion Subaru Suzuki Toyota Volkswagen Volvo I think that's all of them. Well guys, help me out. Thanks for any and all info.
I'm a big fan of Nissan's, but just about any Japanese car is a solid car these days. I've also been loving the new designs that Ford and Dodge have come out with. If you can afford the 2005 Mustang, that'd be my choice, or a Nissan 350Z. Chevy's suck.
Having worked on both Fords and Chevys myself, I give a great edge to Chevy every day of the week and twice on Sundays. The good thing about GM products is, they are easy and usually inexpensive to work on, especially their truck/SUV models. Toyota and Nissan are your top imports IMO. Here is my top 5: 1. Nissan/Infiniti 2. Toyota/Lexus 3. Acura 4. Volvo 5. GM I'd stay away from Volkswagen and Chrysler products.
Many families have very strict loyalties to one brand or another. My family was a big GM family. We owned nothing but chevys for a long time. To us, Ford stood for Fixed Or Repaired Daily. Of course, I grew up and refused to have anything to do with domestic cars. Don't really care for their ridiculous depreciation or shoddy reliability. So I drive a Honda.
Go to JD Powers' website - they rank them on initial quality, customer satisfaction, etc. But you didn't say what you were looking for, so what the hell are we basing the rankings on - cool emblems?
RollsRoyce Bentley Ferrari Maybach Lamborghini Porsche Aston Martin Mercedes-Benz Audi BMW Jaguar Volvo Saab Land Rover The rest are crap!
This proud Jetta owner has a piece of advise; stay away from VW. Ya they are cute and fast and the engine is reliable, but the joy diminishes quickly when you have to fack with all the annoying crap on the interior that keeps failing like the power windows and sun roof and plastic coatings peeling again. My next car is going to be a Hyundai... with a 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty (will cost me a bit extra to bump up from the 50K bumper to bumper and 100K powertrain, but well worth it.) Have you seen the Hyundai's? You could afford that. #1 in customer satisfaction.
honda, toyota, acura, nissan, in no particular order then i guess the germans and mitsubishi, well nowadays the hyundis too. then ford, chevy and mercury(all suck)

Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota Toyota and Toyota.
Well I was wanting opinions, facts, your experiences with the models you have and do own or used, etc.
Every car my families have bought with the exception of 2 of them is toyota. In another word 7/9 cars is toyota. Get Toyota.
OK. I've owned several Honda's, and they run forever, even if they aren't well taken care of. I've had Toyota's I've loved and some I've hated. I think they are excellent, overall. Nissan is a good make, and Mazda has moved up a lot in quality. (they are also cheaper) Subaru is a good choice if you want all-wheel drive, All their cars and mini-suv's come with it. As for the rest? They are more expensive or less reliable, or both, imo. edit: I grew up in a Ford/Merc family. Fords rule!! (buy Japanese)
My Ford F150 is the best vehicle I've ever had. It's virtually problem free. I would never buy a Japanese truck. But I'd defer to Codell who actually used to work on these things.
