Hey guys -- I want to consult the collective wisdom of the board on a question. My friend has a small home business, and he wants to start a website for it. So he needs to register a domain name, and then find a place to host his website. What are the best places to register your domain name and to get your site hosted. And which are some of the cheaper ones. Maybe off topic, but he also wants to get cable internet so he can better manage his website and do business on the web. So do most cable providers provide some space on which you can host your website? Thanks, y. woodie zhao.
I went with www.lunarpages.com. Hosting and the domain was less than $100 a year and their service has been pretty reliable.
Earthlink will give you 10mb webspace for each email account you open up, you can open up to 10 email accounts if you have them for cable provider.
Is there a way to buy a domain name that has already been purchased, but truly is not in use? I have tried at least 15 variations of a theme. They all say they are in use, but none of them bring up a website. Frustrating.
GoDaddy.com has a service that you can buy with which they will notify you as soon as that domain becomes available. You also can do a Who-Is search and just make an offer!
I use www.webfavorite.com for my web hosting. I've used them for over a year now and have had no problems. You can 100mb of storage space for 1 year with a generous amount of bandwidth.
