Huge win tonight. Winning tonight's game should make everyone realize that we are for real now. Definitely playoff material. That said, one of the pieces that could possibly keep us from reaching our potential is Cuttino's ridiculous decision making. The way he plays the entire game, but especially down the stretch, will cost us several games if he doesn't grow up and start making better shot/pass decisions. Nice win tonight. Even though Shandon played like 7 minutes total. ------------------
Without Cuttino we'd probably be about 2-9. He's been arguably the best player on the Rockets so far IMO, and tonight even furthermore backed that up I believe. ------------------ President of the Jason Collier fan club! I agree Mobley still could use some work on his decision making but saying he is keeping us from reaching are full potential is crazy.Without Mobley we have no chance at the playoffs and not much of a bench either let me add!Mobley is turning into one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the league,he is almost unstoppable 1on1.If your bigger than him he will go around you with his quick 1st step and he can shoot up over the smaller guys with ease!He is by far the best player off the bench right now IMO. ------------------
Now if he could just stop jacking up those awful fadeaways... ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" Cuttino is the Rock's mvp. We should trade Francis, he got lucky tonight. Cuttino should always be our leading scorer. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
Please what game were you watching? As a matter of fact have you been watching any of the Rockets games? Cuttino is a major part of why the Rockets are where there right now. In the 4th quarter he was da bomb. They had no answer for him. Marion couldnt hold him for nothing. As far as decision making how bad did he do tonight? I think he had 8 points in the 4th tonight and if I recall on one occasion when he drove to the basket he found Mo Taylor wide open for a dunk. I dont know why everyone is hating on Cat cause at the end of the game he is the man. I repeat, the man. If Steve would learn how to shoot the wide open shot instead of driving out of control then he could be the man too. Also for some reason he doesnt seem like he wants to throw the ball to Hakeem when he is in the post. Most of Hakeems shot came from the perimeter tonight. Please quit bashing my boy. I know he makes stupid decisions sometimes but for most the part when the ball is in hands I would venture to say at least 70% of the time something good is going to happen. ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder

And oh yeah, one of those crucial shots he made in the fourth was the fade-away or step back jumper. Pick your poison, a jumper in your face or being left standing while you get drove on. ------------------ Rockets Season Ticket Holder [This message has been edited by cato13 (edited November 19, 2000).]
Having the ball in ones hand for the entirity of the game and having the amount of assists that he has is pathetic. I'm sorry but scoring is just a very minor aspect of it. I know damn well that even Francis is getting pissed when Cuttino jacks all those shots up. Just look at their faces. He has NO IDEA what getting others involved means. You give me almost any other shooting guard making similar money as he is and I give you a 8-3 record. You give us Dick back and I guaranDamntee it that we would be in the playoffs this year. I love his attitude of lightning in a bottle but he has to be coachable too. He is too reckless. I totally agree with Newtown he will hurt us down the stretch in a big game. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day
You are kidding, right? And if you aren't, what have you been smoking? There is something called chemistry. As for you other Cuttino bashers, how can you deny that this player is clutch. This season he is scoring a lot in the fourth quarter. He can beat out most players on the isolation plays the Rockets run for him. You leave him open and he will hit the J. You guard him close and he will take it to the hole and get fouled. He is an excellent free throw shooter. Even if he carries the ball on some occasions or takes an ill advised shot, the positives by far outweigh the negatives Cat brings to this team. ------------------
Yeah I'm kidding. I've been somewhat frustrated by some posters nagativity towards Steve. I think he's playing very well this year, I wish he would look for his shot more. I just don't think Steve is getting the credit he deserves. ------------------ "There are two players carrying the Rockets right now. Hakeem and Olajuwon." Isiah Thomas
You do know that Cuttino is being told to run his ISO play down the stretch. Cuttino is not making that decision totally by himself. For instance, with 45 seconds left last night, I watched Cuttino dribble and dribble the clock down while looking directly at Rudy. With a little over 30 seconds left, Rudy gave the go sign with his arm, and Mobley immediately drove and took a Kobe shot at the elbow. Why? It was a classic 2 for 1 shotclock play. This guarantees the Rockets get the last possession (or foul shots). Rudy took over at 45 seconds, NOT MOBLEY. Rudy wanted to make sure Mobley did not shoot too soon. Mobley did exactly what Rudy wanted. Bashing Mobley for too many ISOs is wrong. The majority of the time it is called from the bench. Plus, I want Mobley to shoot fadeaway jumpers. If he can start hitting them frequently, he then is an all-star, an absolute stud shooting guard. His mistake to me is drifting laterally on the shot. He must jump back only. He'll get it to go. But only if we don't stunt his development by bashing him for failure.
Heypartner, Thanks for the insight. I've also been concerned that we are becoming too dependent on the Cat iso's. I just haven't felt that everyone has been included in the team concept & that we are fast becoming too predictable. If we do, eventually teams will find a way to defense it. They always do. ------------------
I certainly agree the 4th quarter is doing the two shakes too much. But that is the only time I think we are doing it too much. I would love so much to see us rely on it less in the 4th. But being predictable in the 4th quarter has won many a championship. We need to improve our 4th q defense more than worry about the predictability of our crunch time plays.
Whoever think Cuttino sucks, sucks! p.s. and they are also illegitimate! ------------------ Sometimes you gotta do the next best thing!
I was at tonights game and steve played a helluva game and if you think otherwise your crazy.Somebody said he drove to the lane crazily, what game were you watching? I saw steve using his teammates picks to hit smooth jumpers again and again.Maybe I'm wrong but it seems to me that all the people who like cuttino the best feel obligated to take shots at steve since he does get top billing on this team. Maybe I'm wrong but it just seems that way. I think that they make maybe the best backcourt in the league. If anybody can think of a better one name it, cause i sure as hell can't think of one. ------------------ www.truebballfansite.homestead.com
The reason Barkley never won a ring with Houston is that he would run too many iso's where he would take 20 seconds off the clock before doing anything. Mobley will be the same, until he learns to make something happen earlier in the posession. ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" HP in my opinion.. cuttino will be a stud once he learns to make all the other players around him better. thats what great players do. francis i think has a better shot of truly being great than mobley does because mobley while he does waht coach says really does play selfish ball sometimes. i wish rudy would use some pick and roll or cuts or SOME movement. its all playground ball right now. teams like Philly are going to KILL us because they have good defenders iverson and lynch. cuttino certainly does not "suck" though as the stupid title suggests. he does make things happen good or bad. and he gets to the foul line which is great. we really need cato back right now because cato is a semi decent recipent of when mobley ISO's. i really wish we could have the fast break back. we have no fast break at all. shandon could get some easy transition buckets. if MO would every RB it'd be nice. francis sometimes spends too much time rebounding. i'd almost like to see him cherrypick a little while hakeem or whoever RBs can just outlet it. i also wish they would run some cuts for shandon about the middle of the lane. shandon can finish well. utah IMO runs one of the best offenses in the league. they have back picks, cuts, pick and roll etc. if francis could hit a J id love for rudy to use a pick and roll w/ mo taylor who if he rolls right could be open for a j. ------------------ --TEX [This message has been edited by TeXaSalsa (edited November 19, 2000).]
Oh that's right, Kobe is making Horry a lot better. And Eddie Jones hasn't been the same since he left Kobe. hehe...couldn't resist that one. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited November 19, 2000).]
Utah has one play with 101 options, and it doesn't work without Malone. If you want to see a great motion offense, tape a Phoenix game. What they do is awesome. <font size="1"><font color="> [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited November 19, 2000).]
yah utah runs a complicated offense. phoenixs offense is really good. minnesota's offense IMO is the best of all. hey whoever said kobe and EJ were great yet HP? Kobe's a star and he's talented as hell but he isnt a shoo in for the hall of fame yet. and yes shaq does make other players better. brian shaw and other shooters who'd never have a shot at another NBA team thrive on the lakers. ------------------ --TEX
