I've been listening to The Laura Ingraham Show. She's in Houston today, by the way.
Dan Patrick is launching an initiative to get people who are so inclined to remove remote control access to MTV from their remote controls... since the cable company does not seem to be responsive to complaints.
Do you applaud or deride this grass roots movement?

i don't agree with it...but i applaud it. the only way to effectively protest the private sector is to hit them with dollars...less viewers can equal less advertisers...or less money they can charge for spots.

The people that would boycott MTV aren't the people that actually watch MTV (and thus aren't the people advertisers are targeting on MTV)
grassroots boycot of MTV by older, religious, conservatives won't effect MTV in the slightest

Well, there's already a proposed class action lawsuit filed, so this shouldn't surprise anyone.
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/doc_o_day/doc_o_day.html
It took almost three days, but the first lawsuit has been filed in connection with Janet Jackson's breast. A Tennessee woman yesterday filed a proposed class action lawsuit "on behalf of all Americans" who watched the Super Bowl halftime show and were somehow injured by Miss Jackson's adorned nipple. In the below federal complaint, Terri Carlin, a 47-year-old Knoxville bank employee, contends that Jackson's exposure and other "sexually explicit conduct" during halftime festivities caused viewers to "suffer outrage, anger, embarrassment and serious injury." Details of those supposed injuries were not further described in the complaint filed by attorney Wayne A. Ritchie II. Along with Jackson, Carlin has named as defendants Justin Timberlake, CBS, MTV, and Viacom. Carlin's complaint seeks compensatory and punitive damages, though an exact dollar figure is not specified. But it seems billions would be in order since Carlin notes that punitive damages should not exceed the gross revenues of all defendants for the past three years.

That being said, Empty V sucks.

I would applaud a grassroots movement for society to remove a disliked product from its consumption. However, a movement that is started and championed by a (quasi-)celebrity isn't really a grassroots movement. In any case, I don't have MTV, so I'm in no danger of accidentally lending them support, if I happened to be inclined to remove such support. I dislike them generally, but not for the recent fiasco.

Did I get the name wrong? I'm not referring to the ESPN Dan Patrick. I'm talking about the conservative radio personality in Houston. Correct me if I'm wrong on the name, please!

Give me a break. "Sexually explicit content?" I hate MTV, but this lawsuit is just stupid.
BTW, if these people think baring a nipple is sexually explicit, how did they ever have kids?

I'm a conservative and I can't stand that guy. Sounds like a quasi-publicity stunt to me.
I don't know, I'm just really getting tired of all the talk-host boobs blathering on and on about this. Can't we just let it go?

I feel dirty.

i know there are a lot of people who don't like dan patrick..particularly because of opposition to publicly funded stadiums.
i've met with and worked with the guy...i think he's a great guy...just someone many of you would disagree with a bunch, including me. but he was super-nice to me and everyone else.

It may not be sexually explicit, but it sure doesn't belong on a nationally televised show that kids of all ages are watching.
You are getting caught up in the verbiage and not focusing on the real message here.
