Sixers' Roberts expelled from NBA
NEW YORK -- Stanley Roberts of the Philadelphia 76ers was expelled
from the NBA on Wednesday after testing positive for a prohibited drug.
Roberts had been placed on the injured list by the 76ers on
Tuesday because of a lower back strain.
The NBA said in a statement Wednesday that Roberts
tested positive for an "amphetamine-based designer drug"
which is prohibited by the Anti-Drug Program agreed to by
the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association. A positive test
under the program requires that a player be expelled.
Roberts has appeared in five games for the 76ers, averaging 10.2
minutes, 2 points and 3 rebounds per game. He missed the first five
games of the season while he was rehabilitating from shoulder surgery.
Roberts cannot apply for reinstatement for at least two years, the NBA
