I got this friend from Guam who keeps calling me a "brodie" and a "chelu." They say it's Guam slang, and they also say they're never telling me what either one means. Can anyone help me out here? These aren't made up are they?
nah, I have no clue. But if I had to guess, I would think it to mean something degrading to either your race or your sexuality.
Geez, c'mon! ANOTHER guam slang thread?!?! I wish people would be more original with their thread ideas...
Maybe you can find the answer here: http://www.chamorrobible.org/chamorro-dictionary1.htm I will say this....after looking a bit through their dictionary, I would have to say that Chamorro (the laungauge of Guam) must have been designed around people's need to hurl insults at one another. It seems like every other word is derisive.
Hmmmm... okay, so "chelu" means brother. Thanks Pole. Still don't know about "brodie" though, and my friend uses that one on me twice as much!
At slangsite.com, they have: bro'dy: Bro or just someone you're talking directly to. Example: Wassup, bro'dy? broady: A burnt out surfer, with outrageous clothing, such as Jeff Spicoli. Example: My friend here surfs all day and smokes himself blind. He's a classic broady.
Well they're always calling me that over IM as well, so I know it's spelled "brodie"... but that first one kinda makes sense I guess...
I'm from Guam and che'lu is just what you call your good friends and brodie is basically calling you a man w****.
It means "Shark hunter who is afraid of the water" <iframe width="560" height="345" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Dzdjn8me2o0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
