Arrowhead (1989) -- Heston brawls with Palance (we want to see a rematch) when an Apache chief returns to his tribe after being schooled in the East to find his nemesis, a bitter cavalry scout, wants to continue their private war.

If you like reluctant studs, you will love this movie.
Nice tidbit on F&S.

1. Good Bad and the Ugly
2. Little Big Man (one of the best movies of all time)
God I love some of the quotes from that flick:
Quote:
Old Lodge Skins: Don't worry my son, you will be back with us, I dreamed it last night. I saw you with your wives
Jack Crabb: Wives, Grandfather?
Old Lodge Skins: Yes, there were three... or four, it was hard to tell. It was very dark in your teepee and they were under buffalo rugs as you crawled among them. Anyway, it was a great copulation.
|
Quote:
Grandfather: You've taken a white woman?
Jack Crabb: Yes, Grandfather.
Grandfather: Does she show a natural enthusiasm when you mount her?
Jack Crabb: [laughing] Yes, Grandfather.
Grandfather: I tried one of them myself once and she showed no enthusiasm at all.
|
3. McClintock
4. Fistful of Dollars
5. Blazing Saddles
6. Tombstone
7. Dances With Wolves
8. The Cowboys
9. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
10. Outlaw Josie Wales

Shane is tops.
Honorable mention to Duel in the Sun. Although perhaps a little disappointing for a movie starring Gregory Peck and directed by Selznick, Jennifer Jones is so damn hot playing the lusty, trampy (insert politically incorrect adjective here), the movie deserves a footnote.

It saddens me greatly to only see three mentions of The Outlaw Josie Wales.
And all of your lists opinions are null and void when Tombstone is not number 1.
It is that damn good.

I am a huge fan of Westerns. My favorite is Once Upon A Time In The West. One of the best casts in history, Fonda is one bad dude in this film. This film has it all, and I have seen it at least 10 times. I just can't get the sound of that harmonica out of my head.

Try getting the theme to Once upon a time in America out of your head. Ennio can write some addictive melodies.

Okay, Lonesome Dove is number one. But I didn't know it would qualify. That was such an epic. The defining moment in my life.

That's the one. And after seeing Little Big Man on the list I realize I should have listed it on mine. That was a great movie.

Anything with John Wayne
The Cowboys, Rio Bravo, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, True Grit, The Sons of Katie Elder, El Dorado, The Alamo, and as Al Bundy always said "Hondo!!!".
Being a youngster....
Tombstone
Dances with Wolves
Wyatt Earp
Maverick (yeah the new one!)

I never liked a single movie with John Wayne in it.
Not one.

I actually got a resume from an actor once that listed "Can sing like Lee Marvin" in his special abilities.
Not a big fan of Westerns in general, though I have enjoyed the following:
Blazing Saddles
Support Your Local Sheriff
Support Your Local Gunfighter
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Magnificent Seven
I guess that's it unless we can count The Three Amigos, as well.
(And I did like The Frisco Kid and The Villain when I was a kid).
