Good question. Hopefully some one has some info for us.

I know that it was certainly talked about, but I do not recall hearing when it would be or if they had selected the artist or anything else.

I can feel the administrators power....the lock button is close to being pushed....

No one knows anything about the statue.

When someone does know something you can be damned sure it will be posted.

So don't start threads with a question we have seen millions of times that noone can answer. Nothing personal. But it's all true.

I remember hearing that Hakeem had a problem with it because of his religion. Something about idolizing that doesn't set well with the Muslims. I'm sorry if that wasn't worded right.

Hakeem needs to get over it. I don't see anyone coming to it for worship.

There is a huge difference, but I understand your question.

The statue is an artwork to honor and individual. The pictures are simply chonicled photographs of his career.

The Rockets are still waiting on the statue along with the new uniforms to arrive by UPS.

Actually I hear plans for it have been scrapped. The Rockets instead have decided to put a statue of the Chinese president in front of the new arena. They feel this more accurately portrays the future direction of the franchise and will net the team more international appeal. For those living in Houston who still wish to see some sort of tribute to Hakeem, there will instead be a full-page Hakeem poster in the back (very back) of the Chronicle Sports section sometime after the start of the season.

When I read that, I almost thought that was Tim posting... wouldn't surprise me though... BTW, where's the uniform unveiling?

I work really close to the Toyota Center and I have parked in the Toyota Tundra garage numerous times and I haven't seen anything resembling a statue anywhere in the front of the Toyota Center...

Heck they don't even have the goals up in the practice court yet.
