Eddie should be up for an extension at the end of this season (team option year?). If he has another mediocre season, does anyone think we could low-ball him on a long term deal (a Mobley type contract or lower) and have a really cheap powre forward who is still very young and has a lot of potential? I am almost hoping that Griffin does not have a breakout season as that will just make it that much harder for us to keep him.

EG was a first rounder, which means that this is his last guaranteed year, but there is a team option for a fourth. I hope EG does have a breakout year because if he does, that will put us in a position to do well in the playoffs. It will also raise his value so that if we do have to option and trade him, he will be attractive bait. In addition, if we do give him a max (or large) contract, we should be set with the 1, 2, 4, and 5 spots well filled. We won't need anything but roleplayers at that point.

That being said, I guess it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to sign him to a reasonable 4 year deal as he turns 22. Shades of J. O'Neill with Portland.

I love win-win situations!

:D

Even if he doesn't live up to our expectations, he still has some good skills for a role player to have. He can block shots, he can run the floor, and he can shoot the ball out to the three point line.

As long as he doesn't ask for a huge amount of money, I say we hold on to him.

I think we should regotiate his contract and pay him less since he isnt playing great... JUST LIKE MR. DEEDS said to the football player....

it's not the extension year. The comes after 3yrs for all 1st round players whose team exercised their 4th yr Team Option.

but, you're right. The Rocket's right to exercise the 4th yr Team Option expires this Fall on Oct 31st (or the first game of the year, can't remember which).
