NBAtalk has reported that Toronto brought in Cutino today. With Tracy McGrady pretty much gone, they like Cutino's 16 points a game last season and he must like the idea of playing with Vince Carter to go all the way to Canada.

I guess Rudy was more loyal during the draft to Cutino, then Cutino is to the Rockets. I know he wants to explore all his options, but we just blew the draft passing on every 2 in the draft. As Rudy stated, "We love Cutino and I would of never drafted a 2 and take the chance on hurting this guy".

If Cutino leaves, I bet most everybody on this board will be having nightmares of draft day. Especially if Courtney Alexander rips his rookie year, like some scouts are predicting

If you were a free agent, wouldn't you visit other cities too, even if you intended to stay with your current team?

He and Francis are too good of friends. Plus, I choose to believe that he noticed that the Rockets didn't choose any guards for a reason.

Plus, we already have Shandon Anderson. If we lose Mobley, which I don't think we will, I'm still very happy with our backcourt.

Put yourself in Cat's shoes....

Sure, loyalty is a good thing. But wouldn't you explore what was out there, even if your intent was to stay put? You always have to look out for yourself. I too think he will stay, but there is nothing wrong with him taking a look at his options. Plus, him doing that could make him see how the Rocket organization differs from others. How else would he ever have anything to compare it to?

Mobley will never go to Toronto. He doesn't speak Canadian.

Cuttino Mobley will stay right here in Houston to play with the Rockets. He's too cute to go to Canada!

this guy can make friends anywhere- even the Toronto paper referenced his friendship with Alvin Williams. Granted, Williams is a bench scrub whereas Francis is not... but even so, I think the bottom line on Cat is that he needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Is he going to get his needed looks with Air Canada on the floor at the same time, or will he have to settle for sixth man again? If the guy wants to be a star he should head for Charlotte b/c EJ is gone- there's a starting nod right there.
For my money I would want a guy who can D up and put a body on the opposing 2... a perusal of the free agent list has three names popping up at me as possibilities:

Lord Tariq (his Islamic brother is best player in Rockets history)
Derek Anderson (no place with the Clips now... eeek)
and our obligatory blast from the past...
Junkyard Dog.

Cat is nice, yes... but there are options.

If Cat walks, the player I would like to make a sign and trade proposal for is Ron Mercer. With the 4.5 mil trade exception and considering the Magic have no intentions of re-signing him, the Rockets could offer future considerations. Mercer would fit in well as an athletic 6-7 wing player that can score and slash. The Magic would get a future pick which would have no impact on tneir cap this season and allow them to still get something for Mercer.

However, I think this is all moot, b/c I am still not convinced that Cuttino is walking. The point is though that the world will not come to an end if he leaves the Rockets.

Mercer has been a fave of mine since he practically carried Kentucky to the 96 title over Syracuse. He could play the 3 for us, freeing us to make a deal involving Walt. However, I expect Cuttino (and Walt) to be back with the Rocks.

Anyway, why a sign and trade? He might just be renounced by the Magic! The pickings for Ron could be so slim that he's take our exception.

The main reason he was traded from Boston was his poor defense, though. Another player it might be best to pass on.

The reason for the sign and trade is that we're capped out and can't offer him more than the $2.3M exception.

We could send the exception and somebody else for Mercer, and that might enable the Magic to sign McGrady as well.

I still don't think Mobley will leave though.

If his pickings were that slim, wouldn't he go to a team like Utah, that needs an SG, and could be on the cusp of winning.

Mercer also is a me first player, has maybe an average shot (streaky), and poor defense (OMG He's Cuttino! )

People......
i live in Toronto and i have to say that city is a lot better than Houston! The problem is it's COld as hell. Well Vince Carter is putting a lot of pressure to sign a free agent by this next week.....they are thinking of getting someone who can handle the ball like Mobes.....the guy will get major playing time and big time money for sure.....he will finally get to show that Talent in full gear along side Vince.......Toronto has no scorers except for you know..........Well i'm a Houston Rocket fan 2 so i hope he goes to Toronto or stays here in Houston!
