OK....I have a great respect for Asian cuture, and I recognize that there are quite a few differences between our cutures.

Nevertheless, I don't think I'll be trying this any time soon.

I've heard of this. In fact, a friend of my Wife used to do this.

I still find it weird.

3 million out of a billion, that's not even one percent of the Chinese population. I dont' know how this is part of Asian culture when it's roots are in China and apparantly still there, while not even practiced by a huge majority. Just some people with a strange idea.

Loonies are everywhere in the world. However it seems to me the number three million seems to be dramatically inflated.

That would work out to be about one in four hundred.

WTF!!!!!!!
Well this is not a cultural difference.
It's just like...
3 million out of 1.2 billion is...like not that much.
This doesn't mean that all Asians do this. It's not some culture.
That's nasty!!

Ironically, this thread was started by the great racial divide eradicator.

Uhh...there are Americans who do the same thing for the same reason. I am sure there are people all over the world who do it...I just know about the US for sure.

Stupid o attribute it to Chinese - much less Asian (because there is only one?)- culture.

Wow...I start a thread pointing out something.....strange.....but also something that might be looked upon unfavorably.

So what I do before hand: I diffuse that possibility by

1) stating that I have great respect for....
2) Asian Culture--and by using "Asian" instead of Chinese, this further difuses the situation by suggesting that this is a cultural thing between the East and West, and they....
3) have differences

What happens? I totally get jumped. What a bunch of pricks. I mean, Rimbaud? not a huge surprise. He tends to get his panties in a wad at strange intervals, and pgabriel? No big surpise either.

But this kind of pile-on? Unreal.

Let me ask you something, when Reggie White got in trouble when he tried to say positives things about different races, you know, "in Japan they can turn a clock into a watch", why did people still give him a hard time,

because he equated one attributed of a few people he knew to a whole race. You take one thing you hear about a small percentage of people of one culture, and you equated with the whole culture. That's what racism is idiot. It doesn't matter if you were being positive.

I wasn't aware I was jumping on you - just pointing out this is not really a cultural thing (nor is it a modern thing, either - there is a long history of it).

I didn't understand your usage of "Asian" but I guess you were trying to make it less specific in order to offend less? I still don't understand that, but it is different than my initial reading.

Anyway, perhaps I shouldn't have used "stupid," although it wasn't directed towards you. Ultimately, though, I don't care since my panties hurt.

It's nice to retreat to the confused PC whipped Whitey card. Was I being offensive? I'm sorry, I'm just pointing out the way things are...

Similarly, I wouldn't consider eating fresh placentas an American, a Western, an Occidental, or whatever you want to call it trait. Some people read a book or take advice from someone else and it happens.

It's a matter of perspective and making rush judgements.
