While we're all waiting for new news, give me your lineup of worst (funniest) rockets to ever don a uni. . . pg allen leavell (sp?) sg dave jamerson (purvis short a close 2nd) sf dan langhi pf granville waiters c Venson "Two Sandwiches" Hamilton (Chuck Nevitta close 2nd) Question - can anyone tell me whether its true that leavell was kicked out of the cba because he choked a referee into unconsciousness during a game?
Right. I don't know where Venson came from. Also, on further review, I think John Thomas merits consideration at the SF position. We can't include Chievous simply b/c he scored 12 points in an overtime game (I don't remember which) to propel the Rockets to victory. Also, his free throws with his mouth open earns him a special spot in my heart.
pg allen leavell (sp?) Why Leavell? He was a good point guard. He played 10 years with the Rockets. His best year he averaged 14.71 ppg, 6.71 assist/game and 2.09 steals per game. He could score and he was a tough defender. Other than Lucas , Stevie and Sleepy Floyd, what better point guards have we had?
I don't appreciate the shot to Granville .. he was a serious role player.. except nobody knew his role.. for those who don't he's the guy who looked like Lee Greenwood...anybody got a picture?
I know Leavell put up good numbers. I included him because his jumper was so funny looking and because I think he choked a CBA referee into unconsciousness. We should probably substitute Dirk Minnefield or Frank Johnson for Leavell.
How about Sleepy Floyd pouting on the bench behind Kenny Smith? Then playing at 3pts, 2a, 4to when he'd get time. Hook, please. Didn't we have Fat Lever for about 2 seconds, too? As I remember, he was great in Denver, then horrible damaged goods here.
I think Brooks was one heck of a cheerleader tho'. Sometimes you need that. He was also good in Tecmo basketball. I never lost when brooks was on my team . He was sooo good I had to disguise that he couldn't miss by throwing a few shots off the rim occasionally.
The Rockets drafted Venson Hamilton from Nebraska, but I don't think he ever played a game. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/1999/draft/draftboard/players/13.html
How about Buck "The Blade" Johnson and yes, definitely Derrick "I can score on anybody anytime" Cheivous.
I know we had pretty ugly lineups in 95-96 when cassell, dream, drexler, elie, horry, and kenny smith missed chunks of time I remember some lineups of mostly fresh cba players...look at these players we had! pg Eldridge Recasner sg jaren jackson sf sam mack pf chucky brown c charles jones also... tracy moore henry james tim breaux jaren jackson melvin booker pete chilcutt alvin heggs mark bryant
