Between Dwight on his way out and Moses Malone Jr. causing a scene, it's probably best to keep that wall blank until late July.
Spoiler Just moving it over to the Astrodome's new parking garage. Spoiler They are just taking it down temporarily to photoshop D-Mo's face on it. Spoiler
Daaaaaaaaaaamn that is harsh. Not just for Dwight, but for the much bigger concession. Rockets really held on hard to our philosophy of dominant big man, playing in-out style. We've put the final nail in the coffin. Don't build around a dominant big. This is a guard's league now. The 3 reigns supreme. I was there for the unveiling of that banner and the welcoming of Howard. Had my oldest boy who was 1 at the time in a baby's superman shirt with the sleeves cut off and cape aflowin'. I thought for sure they would keep that banner up, but I guess they see it as sending the wrong message, an outdated message. Legacy, indeed.
They aren't sending a message to Dwight. The Cavs had to do this with Tristan Thompson last year before he signed the extension. Once the player opts out and is no longer under contract, the team cannot use their likeness on promotional material.
Does this mean Cleveland will have to take down the LeBron banner? http://sports.yahoo.com/news/clevel...ner-isnt-coming-down-after-all-155803445.html
That banner is owned by Sherwin-Williams and is on their global headquarters building. It also says "CLEVELAND" not "JAMES" on the jersey, so I suppose has some artistic license to not actually be using an NBA copyrighted image. I don't think the NBA can prevent that as team promotional material.
