His max is 22 mill, which makes it a tough question for me. 26.4 would be a easy no. I would be fine with signing him to a 22 mill per flat contract, for 3 years IF we land a top player (Conley, Horford, Whiteside, Howard) He would make a good 3rd option and fits well. No to a full raises, 4 year max, or signing him to be our 2nd best player.
I think I may be in the minority here that want Parsons back. His 3 pt shooting would help the Rockets immensely. He shot 41% in 3s last season, good for top 10 in the league, that's with the awful start he had in the beginning of the season as he's recovering from his injury. From Jan to the end of the season, he shot almost 45% from 3s. Think about how much better the offense looks when Pat and Ariza make their 3s. Parsons also clearly can create offense as well. I think his time at the Mavericks has proven that Parsons is capable of generating offense in a pinch. It's not pretty, but it works. Having a perimeter player that can drive into paint and make a layup or a pass would be invaluable to the offense. I think Parsons is worth the $22m/year.
If he was healthy, and if he wasn't going to get paid as much as he is going to, then sure. But I don't trust his health anymore. And I think he is going to get paid too much for what he provides. No for me.
But, he's not healthy. So, why is that listed as an option? Coming off two knee operations, he is damaged goods whether he says he's healthy or not.
The thing that is often under-appreciated is the way the ball moved around with Chandler in the lineup. Although both lack elite ball-handling skill, with Ariza, there is a stagnation and indecisiveness when the ball comes his way when he is not open for a shot, that wasn't apparent with Chandler. His shot fake opened a lot of opportunities. That being said, I don't remember him ever being healthy consistently. Knees and back are concerning.
He's really not that good. Better than Ariza certainly, but no better than a health Parsons (look at his numbers). He's a 15/6 guy who shoots about 35% from 3 (not super special) and we'd have to almost max him out to get him. There are just so few good options in this free agency. I'd rather take a chance Bazemore and save some money.
Would take Chandler back in a heartbeat, but not for max money. If we could get him for ~$8 million, I would definitely jump at it.
Hate Parsons the douche bag, but you have to admit he'd fit MDA's system like a glove. I voted bring him back
