Instead of pursuing Max Players, should the Rockets focus in on bring proven shooters/scorers?

ALA Evan Fournier, Ryan Anderson, Courtney Lee. I would. If Durant is a bust, I go after these kind of players instead of Horford or Conley personally.

The only max player worth pursuing after is Durant.

Les loves big name signings. It helps generate publicity and revenue for the team. Unfortunately, the Warriors and the Spurs have shown that the traditional one two punch of two top 5-10 players surrounded by one dimensional players isn't the route to a championship.

The Warriors had 3 really good players: Curry, Klay, Green. They have also a lot of really good role players. What you really need is 2 or 3 stars and a lot of very good players. Even with Curry out they have guys like livings ton, Iggy, Barnes, Barbosa, Mo, etc. They just have a lot of overall talent. They have just taken the Arms race up a notch.

I agree IF we strike out on Durant, Horford and Conley.

At that point we shouldn't go crazy offering big money to players like Harrison Barnes. We just start approaching the best young shooters and make sure we get a an elite coach or one with elite potential.

Yet they went after (and landed) the biggest prize in last year's free agency.

We have 2 seasons to make this work. 2 seasons before James Harden 99.9% goes home to LA to play for his Lakers.

Forget Durant. Have Harden call him and meet him once, who cares. They are boys and Durant knows that Harden wants him and Durant isn't Dwight. He doesn't need attention.

You focus on bringing in a passionate and vocal leader like Noah. Next you bring in a no nonsense all star level vets in Conley and Batum. Work them hard, give them love and let them know they are our main focus and can bring us back into contention. Tell them the plan is to have all 3 join Harden.

Strike out on all of them? Start thinking heavily about a max offer for Harrison Barnes. Start looking at the middle tier, but still good players like Big Al, Ryan Anderson etc. to join Harden and Barnes.

Stay away from Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, Roy Hibbert type of players with character issues unless it's 1 to 2 year contracts.

If we have nothing or just a few regular guys, do not panic and give those middle tier free agents big money just because we have money to spend. We will set ourselves back many more years if we do that.

If were still lower level roster, We need to start thinking heavily about trading Harden before you lose all leverage when it's clear he is going to leave us while we hover around 8 to 11th place in the West. From now until December, James Harden can get you huge young pieces to build around for the future.

Most likely scenario is offering Barnes the max and letting GS match. I don't think they will with Livingston, Mo, barbosa, Iggy, Curry, Bogut Ezeli all needing new contracts this year and next year.

So i see players like Chalmers, Vasquez, resigned DMO, Scola, Ilyasova, Marvin Williams, Jared Dudley type of players rounding out the roster around Harden and Barnes.

Lol dude, in free agency you try to sign the best players available if you want to build a contender, if not you try to bring in good prospects. You simply don't go out there looking to overpay scrubs and chuckers like Anderson, sorry.

What's looked over is the guys like Livingston, Barbosa, Speights are players we looked over for bigger names. We actually had Livingston and let him go to keep Lin smh. But all in all, GS system is complimented around these guys. Our Moreyball system is complimented around James Harden. Moreyball needs to go

Yes! 1000 times, yes! I really hope Morey and Les forgo the futile wining and dining of Durant and Horford. From reading the various threads on here, it sounds like the Rockets will have somewhere between 40-50 mil in capspace this summer(assuming Dwight opts out and the salary cap is raised as expected). That of course will vary depending on whose contracts the team can dump(Ariza, Brewer, Bev).

But let's split the difference and say it's 45 mil. Instead of trying to use all of that on a couple of All-Star players, why not try to sign 4 or 5 really good players instead? We've got a superstar in Harden who can score and facilitate. How about we get him some help? Guys who can rebound. Defend. Knock down 3-pointers. Slash to the hoop and finish.

I'd go after depth and versatility over starpower. We tried the latter and it flamed out.

High IQ players that can shoot and/or play defense. Batum, Horford, Conley, Noah should all be of interest.

Courtney Lee would be a great pick up but not because he's a scorer. Great two way player and late game pressure defender.

I'll tell you the team we should try to emulate(especially if JVG is the next coach). The Pistons from the Carlisle/Brown era. They didn't have any superstars. Just a bunch of a really good players(some of whom were All-Stars of course). They all knew their roles and they played great team defense.

Surround Harden with solid players like that team had and they could turn this around quickly.

We're going to lose Dwight....not that he was a real max player..but James needs help in both ways...so go after both..1 max player + upgrade in shooters would be great

We had Courtney!! What he do for us when he was here? Where the Ring at? No one can't shoot like the Warriors No One! It is what it is.. Yes the Trend is shooters but you need Stars as well and better role players on offense and defense!

We have enough capspace to go after two max guys at the same time. Some of the interesting players are restricted so its not like they will be gone during the start of the moratorium.
The Dudleys will still be there unless Durant takes two weeks to decide.
