At least McHale argued bad calls....Bickerstaff does not believe in arguing with the refs, so therefore we are even worse as the refs have been free to make horrible calls with absolutely no repercussion.
they play harder. they were definitely not even trying under mchale this season. he lost the locker room. jb has they trying... but he's running the same system with the same players, so how much more change could there be? for all of jb's potential, he's only apprenticed under mchale. how much could he really learn?
What potential???? Where has he had historical success as a head coach??? No player on the Rockets is going to bust his ass for this newbie kid they have as a coach, who has nothing to his resume other than his dad and coaching the worst defense I have seen in NBA recent history. The Rockets just gave the keys to their Mercedes to a teenager who has no license and has only watched other people drive on tv. He doesn't even know how to argue calls with refs during the games! If we are a serious contender we need to hire a real head coach (with a history of success) right now!!!
Les Alexander might have tossed this season away just to think it over the summer. Let's just leave it at that.
This has been my biggest issue with the firing of McHale. If McHale and his coaching staff couldnt get to the players how would the same coaching staff without McHale all of a sudden make miracles happen? I am sure JB has maybe some different ideas and thoughts that McHale didn't want to implement but how drastically different will be message be to the players? To me the Rockets effort defensively has improved quite a bit, but the start of the game they are locked in and as the game progresses they lose focus. That shouldn't happen. There needs to be a whole new voice and staff IMO if you really want an impact to happen with a coaching change. If there was two weeks left in the season I would have no issue with JB, but there is still 80% of the season to be played. This team has talent, it can't be wasted on an interim coach like JB. (Also I like JB and believe he will be a good coach one day but just not now) Coaches I would like Thibs Jerry Sloan Mike Brown (the guy is a great defensive coach and has dealt with a huge ego before)
It's always about the talent on the floor. If you want better defense. Trade for player who can play at least average defense. 'Cause most of these guys here now play zero defense.
