I'm sure gentry is a great offensive mind. However his head coaching record is 335-370 with 4 different teams before the season. He's been to the playoffs twice as a head coach in 12 seasons as a coach. So why was this considered a home run hire?
Pelicans have a crap load of injuries. MVP Anthony Davis should mitigate those losses, but AD going to AD. Great stats no wins. Assistant coach for your world champion warriors.
I acknowledge that he's probably a great offensive mind and obviously was key to the Warriors success last year as a assistant. But his head coaching record is 335-370. That's a pretty big sample size of not being great as a head coach.
Are you saying the media prematurely crowned New Orleans & prematurely crowned Anthony Davis as the best?

Anthony Davis: 14 points (3-12 FG); shot 25 percent or worse from the field for 2nd time this season (had 2 such games all of last season)
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) November 4, 2015
Like Houston/Harden, New Orleans/Davis will get it going here at some point.
Exactly. That's hilarious. The word 'potential' is used a lot to describe him. Sure, he might be the best player in the league in two or three years, but he's not even close in current form. And for all the people excusing his lack of success thus far because of the team around him, look at what LeBron did at age 19/20. That's by no means a common occurrence (LeBron is a freak), but Davis is seriously over hyped. I don't want to say he is overrated, but the reputation doesn't seem to be justified so far. I am positive he will be a force for years to come however, he is still a beast.
Imagine if Charlotte would have won the 2012 draft lottery instead of New Orleans. He would be tearing up the east and Charlotte would be a top 4 seed. Instead he's in the loaded west and happy to just make the playoffs.
They made the wrong hire and everyone knew it. Gentry has never been good as a Head Coach. It's not like Kerr was running an internship program or something, Gentry played a specific role.
