So who do Yall think will be the back up SG behind Harden?. Obviously brewer is like a sixth man and can play SG or SF and Bev can slot in their at times for small ball but out of thorton and KJ who do you think will be getting the minutes?. I'm hoping its KJ. He looked really solid tonight. And of coarse Thornton can play randomly with diffrent lineups and match ups of we need another shooter. We just have so much depth it's hard to determine who plays and honestly that's an awesome thing.
Hard to say. I think it'll be Terry to start but it'll be hard to keep KJ off the floor. I think Thornton will just be a deep bench option.
I'd like KJ out there, but MT played very good tonight. Locking down, hitting jumpers. Rockets are deep
Marcus Thornton was 3-12 kJ was 4-9 with 5 assist 7 rebounds 2 blocks and 2 steals. I'd say he had the upper hand in this game over Thornton. Obviously thorton did done things the stat sheets didn't pick up To me KJ fits more areas like size, defense, offense and athleticism over thorton. But obviously thorton can be that shooter threat we need coming off the bench. Very tough descion
I know this isn't the sexy answer but when Harden sits, I expect either Beverley/Lawson duo or Brewer at SG.
And that's exactly what I was referring to when I mentioned Bev and brewer. I except brewer to take a big chunk of minutes between SG and SF as he is the sixth man of the team technically outside of bev. But regardless we can except thorton and KJ or even terry to be in the rotation/second unit.
I think its going to be a pretty even split between KJ and Thornton, highly dependent on how McHale wants to play at the time. KJ would be killer in the up-tempo, transitional team (alongside Lawson, Brewer, Capela etc.) whilst Thornton would excel as the spot-up shooter with Harden going ISO (which we will probably still see a lot of)
after last season and playoffs it has to be terry by default. thorton or kj can take it from him if they prove themselves. nothing wrong with a small backup sg esp if its terry, and backing up one of the best players in the game, arguably the best. he's not gonna play 20mpg again i know tho, too much depth. if diddnt get terry i'd be ok with thornton or kj, have them fight for minutes.
Both Thornton and McDaniels look good. KJ with his super dunks, and Thornton with his spot up jumper. I think neither will play much if the teams healthy and when Howard's playing, but on the 20 back to back games I expect one or both of them to get some good burn. There's just not enough room on the wing, too much talent. Harden, Lawson, Ariza, Brewer and Beverley will basically have all of the minutes on lock.
i think beverley and brewer eat up all of the minutes backing up the pg-sg-sf spots. there aren't enough minutes for a 10 man rotation considering the talent level of the top 9. i dont think terry or thornton on vet min deals were expecting any minutes when they signed, but they might get minutes when there's an injury. KJ looks like he is still about a year away. dekker and harrell wont get any minutes until dwight has to sit, then they might find some minutes at the PF and C spot respectively. 15th man will be in RGV all year. mchale talked about the difference shedding 2mpg makes on the entire season or the likes of harden and ariza. i think we see harden and ariza come down to 34mpg by shedding those 2 minutes mchale was talking about. brewer still deserves the same minutes as last year, about 25mpg. that leaves 3 minutes on the wing... at the PG spot, last year our starter and backup averages 30 and 21mpg respectively. that actually fits perfectly with the 3mpg left over from the wing. we can determine that the distribution will look like this: ariza (34) - brew (25) harden (34) lawson (30) - bev (21) its hard to see any of those guys playing less than that. so you see, there's no minutes left for a 10th man in the rotation.
