Deandre took less money to go to a worse team. Has that ever happened before?

Yes they did. They just couldn't offer him the extra 5th year. Which doesn't matter so much with the no taxes in Texas and the huge cap rise.

Technically Wes Matthews declined $64M from the Kings and took $55M from the Mavs before DJ signed. So that team was Dirk, CP, Scrubs at that moment vs Cousins, Rudy, Rondo, Collison I think Koufas signed after.

CA has a significant state income tax, especially for people making the amount of money DJ is making. I believe it is over 13% vs 0% state income tax in Texas. Dwight called it a millionaire tax.

Do you mean worse by just a few games? Mavs still were in the playoffs.

Or are we saying from Top to basically lottery?

Good question, Ill try to think of someone.

The Clips w/o DJ > Mavs w/o DJ.

"Worse" is not a straight forward concept.

    This.

I remember Iguodala to the Warriors was surprising. Denver had a very good season that was ruined by injuries and he went to GSW, who I believe they had a budding rivalry with (I think they played each other in the playoffs that year?). Lawson and co. were pissed @Iggy, I'm not sure what DEN's offer was, though.

IIRC, AK47 signed for under his market value w/ the Nets that same offseason, but that was more of a super-star team that didn't work out.

Maybe Al Jefferson to the Bobcats (at the time), but I don't know what other offers he had on the table.

    109M - 13.3% CA State Tax = 94M / 5 = 18.8M/year.
    80M - No TX State Tax = 80M / 4 = 20M/year.

He makes more as a Maverick
