First ever Indian player being drafted. The next Sim Bhullar or the next Indian Yao Ming?

Strong and decent shot, but slow as hell. Long shot to be rotation player.

He's a Maverick, therefore I hope he scores zero points.

Does he still get to steal NBA money just because he got drafted?

The Mavs are just using him:

    - The real story behind the drafting of Satnam Singh -

The NBA is full of intriguing back stories and the Mavericks are involved in a whopper with their second-round draft pick. The plotline with Satnam Singh is more than just a nice little novelty story of the Mavericks taking the first Indian-born player ever to be drafted into the NBA. Much more.

Here’s the background of how a virtually unknown giant of a basketball player from the Punjabi area of India might change the course of Mavericks’ history.

The Mavericks’ scouting department, which has strong roots overseas, has been keeping an eye on the 7-2, 290-pound Singh for several years as he learned how to play the game, first with coaches in India and then at the IMG Academy in Florida. He never qualified to play in college, so Singh learned the game from the club team in Florida.

    Here’s where it gets interesting.

Singh came to be represented by agents Happy Walters and Dan Fegan. Those two happen to also represent Chandler Parsons. And DeAndre Jordan. See where we’re going with this?

Singh is considered a project. He is a huge person, but he has limited athleticism. He needs lots of work and he will get it with the Texas Legends of the National Basketbal Development League.

Singh will get a chance to go through the Mavericks’ summer league, but likely will not sign a contract with them. Instead, he will go to the Frisco-based Legends and be stashed until he gets much-needed seasoning.

That doesn’t mean he won’t ever get to the NBA level. But he’ll get as much time as he needs to learn the game.
In the meantime, investing a relatively small amount of money in somebody like Singh could pay huge dividends for the Mavericks next week when free agency begins. Jordan, the Los Angeles Clippers’ center who led the league in rebounding the last two seasons, is probably their top target in free agency, along with Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge.

The Mavericks are looking for every possible advantage in the recruitment of Jordan and signing Singh won’t hurt.

The NBA is very much a league of back-scratching. Helping agents out with players that may not be focal to a franchise’s success is a way to convince those agents that their marquee clients should join forces with the team that helps out the lesser-talented. It’s been that way for decades.

There is a reason why owner Mark Cuban and Fegan have worked together on so many contracts and trades through the years.

Now, this may not make a bit of difference when the Mavericks begin pursuit of Jordan on Wednesday when the flree-agent floodgate opens. But why take a chance on it having any sort of negative impact? The Mavericks could have gotten Singh as an undrafted free agent. But they did this for a reason. It’s a league of relationships – at least when it comes to building a roster.

So that’s why the drafting of Singh could end up being so monumental for the Mavericks, even if he never plays a game for them.

Deandre Jordan will get multiple max offers. Thus his agents have zero to do with how they influence Jordan from a negotiation perspective.

Jeez, that story is a stretch at best. DJ and CP don't give a crap about Singh and I seriously doubt the agents would let their highest profile athletes be affected by a project like this.

    Saw footage.

This guy makes Yao look like Aaron Brooks speed-wise.

If he ever sees a NBA court, even big centers are going to be able to go right around him.
His only chance is to camp under the basket, which you can't do in the NBA.

Got this from the Mavs forum:

MacMahon is on radio right now, backs this Sefko-story up & even adds some more stuff:

    - there's a huge documentary in the works about Singh's way into the NBA

    - the reason Singh was in Brookly for the draft even though he was projected extremely late in the draft (at best)? they producers basically needed footage for the documentary. Singh getting drafted against all odds & being called up on stage = perfect shot for the documentary

    - he totally backs up the DeAndre-angle

== > Mavs basically did a favor to a powerhouse agent that represents the guy they absolutely want in FA.

They also played Cuban's reaction to the pick. He was literally cracking up when talking about Singh.
