Rockets desperately need a point guard who can play off the pick and roll and slash to the basket. Lawson may not be the best shooter but his speed and quickness will make defenses have to focus on another perimeter player other than James Harden. This would put less pressure on Harden offensively and it would give Houston another ball handler who can finish at the rim. Lawson isn't a free agent so the Rockets would have to give some players up in order to get him.
I disagree. I'm not saying the Rockets shouldn't go get him if he's the best available option and he can be had at the right price. But his defense is awful. And he's yet another guy who is meh at the 3 point line.
He' a shor James Harden without the FT. While I agree we need a 2nd play maker, we also need a PG that can D up. I agree we Need Conley more than Lawson based on this.
Really underrated player because of his position in the current PG saturated league. Third in the league in assists at 9.6 and career 37% from 3. Seems like he's been around a long time but he's only 27. Has three years remaining at a reasonable $12m per for his production. Ideal secondary playmaker that can pass and attack the rim. Obviously defense is not his strong suit. Most importantly though he is likely available.
Ty Lawson is not a perfect fit, just like for all the other starting caliber PGs around the league. This will be so as long as Harden's game will revolve so much around him holding the ball for a large portion of the shot-clock.
Yeah...he's the youngest of their top 3. Next season is the last season he's under contract so maybe people are thinking he's going to force his way out or something I don't know. Can't see them trading him, unless it's to the Knicks so that they can look towards the future with one of those PGs and the Knicks could be so desperate to win now they'd do it.
Folks just read headlines. "Mike Conley will not sign extension with Memphis" MIKE CONLEY IS AVAILABLE!!! Never mind that it makes sense for him to wait.
I'd rather try and draft Jerian Grant who I think is ready to help a team out on Day 1. He stayed in school and his game is well developed. He can handle the ball, create for others, and he can score on his own on the perimeter, finish at the rim or he can catch and shoot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kt3ZN4Q0HwE You need a versatile combo guard next to James Harden. Plus Jerian is 6"5. I'm a fan of the bigger pg. If he's available I'd rather draft him then give a ton of assets to Denver for Ty Lawson who wants out from Denver because he's not a guy whose going to carry a team. He's a piece who happens to be making 11 million a year... No With Jerian Grant he could be ROY and you have him on a rookie contract. This is how you get ahead with this cap. We see Mark Cuban, he gave up all of his picks chasing/trading for FA and now he has to build a new team every year. We don't want to fall into that trap. Teams like the Knicks and Lakers did the same stuff. Its like watching a house fall apart.
Below average defender + below average 3 = no thanks Isn't this cat gonna ask for the max? Isn't some team willing to give it to him?
http://www.si.com/nba/2015/05/21/mike-conley-memphis-grizzlies-contract-extension-free-agent Per SI he will not sign his contract extension. (he wants 2016 FA money) Now that doesnt mean he will be traded and like it says in the article he needs to wait and see what happened with Marc Gasol. But hey, if Gasol leaves Memphis i think there is a good chance Conley would want out.
so, we made the WFC with terry and prigs... i'd say any upgrade at that spot is fine, regardless of fit. he can't defend? neither can terry. he isn't a great shooter? neither is prigs. you know what he gives us? another playmaker. that would give us a grand total of 2. so that would be nice.
Yea you guys are delusional. Lawson can score, create & assist better than any of the pg's mentioned. There's no other option that I see better. Llull? Nope. Dragic? Nope. Lawson is a PURE pg that will get you about 10 assist per game. He pushes the pace, he's aggressive & he scores when needed
I kind of like him, especially with Bev available on the bench. No disrespect to our PGs who did all they could, but almost anything will be an improvement.
