Seriously? His point still holds true, we are not a good defensive team. We have our moments, but in general, no..
He's talking about the warriors... They rank first in defense... and by Barkely's standards, they souldn't be...
That's why I'm saying his point still holds and that quote was taken out of context. Rockets give up 118 or whatever number on regular basis, Warriors do not.
If the Rockets gave up 118 points on a regular basis, then even the stats would say the Rockets aren't a good defensive team.
even with the injuries rockets can be top 10 defensively if they stop switching so much and keep rotating. thats just effort. guards dont box out, just ball watch. their guards are boxing out, curry boxing dwight out and gets a ****in rebound. other than ariza and harden no other perimeter players box out that much.
I think we're getting the hang of defending that team. At all times, stick to Curry and Klay. We can leave Iggy and Barbosa open from time to time. We gotta defend their backdoor cuts to the basket. Warriors struggled defending our transition game. When we attack with pace and let the 3s fly in our rhythm, we are hard to beat. They packed the paint in Game 3, so we opened up space with our 3s.
It's hard to tell that we aren't defensively good since Harden makes the rest of his teammates look like Tony Allens. First team defense
Really, dude? As a Rockets fan you should know that Harden has defended better than Jones, Terry, and the Jekyll/Hyde version of Josh Smith. That's not to say he's anything more than average, but enough with the hyperbole.
He wasn't taken out of contest, Barkley as usual like to make statement base on one game because he doesn't watch or follow the league other that the games he is force to watch on his job and many he probably snacking or taking a nap. After that game he said Houston is the worst defensive team. Houston is bad transition team and when turning the ball over and giving second chances while not shooting good and playing at a high pace is a recipe for high scoring. Top team offensively LA Clippers Golden State Toronto Cleveland Dallas Houston have face top 5 teams offensively while GS faced 9, 12 and 13. There was not much difference defensibly for GS Game 4 from game 3, the difference Houston make the same wide wide open 3 point shoots GS have dare Houston to take, while Harden made the same hard contested shoots he is been making and he was missing game 3. This is not baseball a good offense will always trump a good defense. Yes Houston was bad defensibly in game 3 by giving 30 second chances point, and the switching seem to give curry more uncontested 3 that he should, but they contested most of them in game 4 but a good shooting team will make them even when covered. This league is a made basket league, your offense is as important as your defense in order to stop baskets you need to score efficiently. When so call slow pace grindhouse grest defensive team in Memphis face GS as soon as they stop scoring and started to bricking shoots GS stated to score at a high percentage.
That quote wasn't taken out of context. Barkley said a good defensive team doesn't give up 118 points. That being said, Barkley was just BSing to support his eye test belief. Any numbers Charles uses don't really mean anything. He gets his opinion from watching.
Although he is an all-time great, Charles doesnt watch enough basketball to take his analysis seriously. He can be entertaining and I enjoy his blunt nature, but his schtick has gotten old. Has been for a few years now, imo.
