McHale's inbounds plays are very good. High success rate vs other coaches. The haters just don't remember or purposely forget. I'd love HMMMHMM to do a montage of these. Here's the latest. The Mavs just ran off 5 pts in a row to close the game to 3 points with 1:40 left. Timeout. Then this incredibly beautiful play. This is game based, too. McHale knows Nowitzki will sag off Josh Smith, while they place all attention on Harden. Watch...you might have to pause to see the initial set <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Sx6mXir6-DU?start=438" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> So, McHale puts Harden below the FT line and Josh above him, but Nowitzki stays at the FT line with Harden and Rondo. This allows Harden to stand right there and get behind Nowitzki for a back pick. Josh runs around the elbow and Nowitzki is pinned for an inbound pass to Josh going to the rim for a simple 2pt in less than 1 second.
Coaching in the NBA is a lot about winning over your players. One of the best ways to win over players is to draw up a play in a game critical timeout huddle, for an easy 2pts. that's when the players (and fans) start buying in. McHale does that. He is very good at inbounds plays after timeouts. Make no mistake...McHale sealed that Dallas game with that play. And the players are buying in.

i agree he's improved in several areas this season, notably inbound plays -- which were one of his weak points in seasons past. and this is very good thread for the GARM, if nothing else to help us forget about the injury situation. unfortunately this team still maintains some key flaws that will prevent it from advancing in the playoffs, and very possibly even out of the first round. aside from the obvious issues of discipline on both sides of the court, consistent effort, understanding of game pace, post entry passing, etc…..mchale simply does not make adjustments in games quickly enough. we are blowing leads it seems 2 out of every 3 games. even against the warriors our first game we had a decent lead at the half and then kerr game out with adjustments in the 3rd while mchale just sat on the bench like a spectator. against boston we're up 18 and stevens made several key adjustments to achieve that 2nd half comeback (packing the paint, running 3 guards, trapping harden to leave our perimeter brickers purposely open, etc). it is not by accident that we are blowing 18-20pt leads with such regularity. or that we are blowing leads in the standings at the end of every season. collapses have become the hallmark of mchale's teams, regardless of who is on the roster or on the court. and imo it goes to his deer in the headlights approach. i just don't see us going anywhere longterm despite how much the players may buy in..
Yep, I called that play "a thing of beauty" when I watched it originally. It looks even better now. Kudos to Coach and his staff for some great work there.
crap, sorry, @Clutch This was an accidental bump. I was getting quotes to put in the other Out of Bounds Plays thread, and hit "Reply" in this thread vs the other. where's the embarrassed emoji
