time to follow him for the award i reckon. Josh has began to really contribute off the bench for the Rockets and looks set in his role. Also i have noticed that he has been taking his threes from almost the same spot and wonder whether the Rockets worked on trying to find his sweet spot.
never too soon if you look at his numbers for the past 5 games and for January. i think people were so negative on him early on and it took a big thing from him to request to come off the bench and really provide a strong impact in games
Glad we have him. He plays good D and has some intangibles. Needs to limit turnovers and take the right shot/make the right pass.... BUT - I'm very doubtful he'd ge the award. He would really need to start filling the stat sheet night in and night out to be considered. His overall situation / path to Houston is a sore spot in the eyes of many.
He won't score enough for 6th man of the year but the above is a perfect stat line and exactly what Smith can bring to the table.
I don't know that he'll be 6th man all year. There were reports when we signed him that we promised him a starting spot. His being on the bench is likely the result of needing to time to mesh with the team and learn how to fit in. Once he's comfortable I expect McHale to put him back in the starting line-up, though I doubt he gets many more minutes.
The sad thing is people judge Smith WAY too quickly on these boards. He just came from playing in DET where he was FORCED to play on the perimeter as a small forward. He has a decent shot, but when someone with a decent shot is put in a position that allows for more shooting (like small forwards on the perimeter) he starts shooting more than he should and forms bad habits. We've had him for just about a month and he's already cut back on his midrange and 3s, showing progress on breaking those bad habits. By playoff time, I think Smith will have mostly eradicated those shots from his game and will be a very valuable player for us, on both ends of the court. Unfortunately, he won't get 6th man of the year because no one likes Josh Smith outside of Houston (and even a lot of Rockets fans don't like him), and no one likes Houston outside of Houston. We won't win a major individual award until we win either beat a super legit team in the playoffs or win a ring. There are too many people against the Rockets these days.
I am loving Josh Smith these days. Thinking of all the idiots on here that wanted to cut him gives me joy.
Why's everyone b****'n about this thread... Smith is one of the best most talented players in the league to come of the bench. I could see him getting some 6th man love.
