Once the Pelicans acquired Omer Asik from the Houston Rockets this summer a few things seemed destined to happen.

Asik was going to team with Anthony Davis to help the Pelicans field a top 10 defense this season, allowing them to compete for the playoffs and he would sign a new contract with the Pelicans when he became a free agent this summer, making the mid-first round pick New Orleans gave up to acquire him meaningless.

As it turns out though, things aren’t always as clear as they appear from the outside as Asik hasn’t exactly done what he was expected to this season for New Orleans which is starting to raise the question no Pelicans fan wanted to hear this year. Was the Omer Asik trade in fact a mistake?

Heh heh, it definitely wasn't a mistake for the Rockets. :)

I think GSW should go after Asik to find a replacement for Bogut

Hope he signs in Cleveland if they have the cap space. He would complete the cavs roster.

Many Pelicans fans are not happy with Asik's play right now...

They are a poorly coached team.

That's all that needs to be said about that.

I can't figure out how a team with Davis and Asik on the front line isn't a top 10 defensive team. Either Davis is way overrated on the defensive side of the court or their coaching stinks to high heaven. I tend to think that their coach isn't very good at teaching them how to play defense. We were very good on defense with Asik on the floor even with "McFail" and "Har_en"

Poorly managed team (as laid out by Lowe & Simmons in the most recent BS report)

Thank god New Orleans is such a poorly run franchise. Any team with Anthony Davis as their foundation piece is destined to win championships. Ain't going to happen in New Orleans though.

Their Perimeter defensive is horrible... That limits them so much.

Feels good to be wrong every now and then.

I thought Asik was going to help them a lot.

Ain't no way. Rockets don't need him at all.

We haven't yet seen what that pick is going to get us.

Fingers crossed for something more than a lumbering center (and I do like Asik. He's just limited).

Asik was always at least mildly overrated when he was here. I saw dudes claiming he was a Top 5-10 center or something, which is absurd. He is what he is...a great defensive player (though it looks like even his defense might have slipped), and an absolutely dreadful offensive player. Getting a lottery pick for him when he was guaranteed to leave in free agency was wizardry by Morey.

It's amazing how Asik can't improve his offense. Throw some tennis balls against the wall for God's sake.

We take for granted that players improve, but more often than not, they just DON'T!

Thank god for how Harden has become a superstar!
