There seems be a pattern between his 3 point shooting percentage and minutes played. I wonder if part of the reason he is shooting so poorly is that he isn't on the floor and he is a rhythm shooter - in other words, he needs more PT to get comfortable with his shot. His 3 worst shooting seasons were all when he played under 20 minutes a game. His 4 best were all over that 20 minute mark. Why not let him play 20-25 minutes and see how he does for a few games?
there are a few ways to address his atrocious shooting: 1) sit him down 2) play a better shooter (daniels?) 3) acquire a player who is a better shooter who also replaces garcias defense/toughness/leadership you do bring up a good point about his PT though. however, i'd rather give those extra minutes to papa, terry, and even canaan. especially papa and canaan who have a longer future ahead of them with the rockets.
Too bad there isn't a gym right inside the tunnel that he could be shooting on before he goes in the game... like a pitcher warming up in the bullpen who is about to go in the game.
Good point. Everyone blames bad play on a lack of minutes even by McHale. Well, Garcia has played a lot less minutes than people like Canaan.
Terrible example. Correlation does not imply causation. Did you consider that he's playing less minutes because he's not shooting well?
Can you mother****ers stop with the hate in a thread where it's about Garcia's shooting?!?! Posts like 'waive him' or 'do not play him' are not contributing anything to this discussion. To your point, he does not deserve more minutes since he's forcing his shots. Looking at the game vs. Atlanta and Brooklyn early in the season last year, he just got his shots off of a few passes and he seemed to have a pep in his step that he also showed during the FIBA tournament. Right now, he seems slow and out of sync. He needs to stop looking for his shots, let it come to him in the flow of the game and maybe he will get some more minutes. His defense is fine.
I need to watch more closely...I haven't noticed him looking for his shots. I see him getting the ball in the flow and still being unable to knock down the open looks. Agreed his defense is fine. I really like Garcia, so I'm hoping he finds his shot sooner rather than later.
Last night was really the most I've seen Garcia just force shots up, early in the shot clock, hands in his face etc. He seems to be worried about getting back into the rhythm and it's hurting the team. His shot will come, he just needs to be patient. However, I can understand because he didn't see much time last year after the deadline and hasn't been shooting well in any NBA games since then either. I have no explanation for his slower release and no pep in his step.
Garcia's season 3pt% has always been quite good, somewhere from .350 to .400. There were only 3 seasons he shot poorly. 05-06 (rookie) .285 11-12 (lockout) .290 14-15 (so far) .192. I don't get all the hate for Garcia while the beloved Troy Daniels is shooting a fantastic .269.
Each season his level of suckitude has increased which has led to a reduction in minutes. He has what they call in basketball rotting corpseitus.
Garcia's shot went missing a year and a half ago. At this point, he's nothing more than a defensive specialist.
Different story. Troy Daniels is a young player who should get used to playing in the big league. Garcia is a veteran whose career is ending
He shot .386 in 12-13 after he was traded to the Rockets. Last season, in limited role, he shot .358, which was not too bad. I actually thought he shot worse than that, definitely felt that way. I guess perception is a b****. He is averaging .192 this season. I don't think the low percentage is sustainable, any more than Ariza's .600 at the beginning of the season. Sooner or later it will creep back toward the mean.
