This story intrigues me as a long-time basketballer. If MKG pulls this off and becomes a plus shooter this will be the greatest shooting skill transformation I have ever seen in over 35 years of being involved in this game. He has made substantial visible improvement. And I'm rooting for him to continue the uphill trek to plus shooter status.

    Old form:

Looks much better, but then lots of players have improved their jumpshot visibly only to revert to their old form under the pressure of real games. We'll see.

if he's really worked on it as much as been written, hopefully it improves. but in an actual game that remains to be seen. he probably won't ever be considered a shooter though

Agreed. Not sold on it until I see it in the game. But the improvement even for practice is clearly a positive. His practice shots were like the pic.

This brings me to my next point. I don't understand why the Rockets don't have a shooting coach. I'm sure there's a coach that's assigned the duty of helping the shooters but no dedicated shooting coach that I know of. Spurs took the lead in this area several years ago with Chip Engelland. That was a key piece of their championship last season as they had guys that could shoot the ball filling up the whole roster.

His form is so broken or at least used to be that I'm not sure how much he can improve.

And if you're not a scorer in this league, you ain't getting paid big bucks unless you're a defensive big man.

I see him being a slightly better Tony Allen at his best.

Never heard this expression used by someone who isn't a coach/GM/player or media member covering the game.

I have posted a few times about MKG and his mechanics. His shot has a lot there. It will be hard for him in games, because he will have to rely on muscle memory. Over time if he keeps tweeking and perfecting his shot form, I think he can become an almost league average shooter.

It's going to take more than one season. I doubt MKG ever becomes a "plus shooter", but he has to at least develop a serviceable jumper.

Consistent repetition is what makes a great shooter. The mechanical foundation of a "plus" NBA-level shooter has to be laid earlier than this to create muscle memory. The great shooters all tweak their forms throughout their careers, but the basic mechanics are already there.

For MKG, the goal needs to be simply becoming an acceptable shooter. If he can manage that, with his defense and athleticism he'll have a 10-12 year career.

I looks a lot better I'm rooting for him too, but I'll still get pissed when he makes a 3 against me in 2k lol

Wow... haven't heard that name in years. I used to watch him play at Duke when my wife as in grad school at Duke.

Really improved his release and mechanics, at least that should help a bit. Having a consistent release point helps a lot, he used to shoot and twist his wrist on the way down, which really messed his shot up.
