Other than Indiana and Miami, did any team get worse this summer?

Seems like almost every team improved. Seems like wins are going to be harder to come by this next year.

    Something's gotta give...

Twolves lost Love, they will be worse.
New York replaced Chandler with Dalembert which is a downgrade, although Felton for Calderon perhaps is a wash.
Washington lost Ariza for PP, which is a downgrade
    OKC lost Thabo
Phoenix is up in the air with Bledose, they could be worse

    Rockets

As much as I hate to say it, this team as currently constructed is worse.

    Beverley, Canaan
    Harden, Daniels
    Ariza, Papaniko
    Jones, Motiejunas
    Howard, Dorsey

Is simply not as talented as

    Beverley, Lin
    Harden, Daniels
    Parsons, Garcia
    Jones, Motiejunas
    Howard, Asik

    Agree with the TWolves answers.

But their future is super bright.

Us. We lost Lin, Asik and Parsons for nothing and the only significant addition is ariza.

You don't win games by having the bigger names, the right mix matters.
Defensive minded guys like Ariza&Papa who know their roles, make up for Harden's defensive lapses and spread the floor are more important to this team than an "okay at everything, doesn't excel at one thing" guy like Parsons.

Not saying you don't have a point. But a healthier DH and hopefully a more defensively focused Harden can make a huge difference

You still need the coach to pull all this together. Morey might not thing coaches are important, or maybe they do not translate to enough wins in the regular season via his regression model to be statistically significant, but Popvich proves that coaches make the difference in the little things that help win the games.

True, but my point was about the team now being a better working unit.

We got worse, but at the same time we did not perform up to our teams potential. We could have gone to the Western conference finals, and even former NBA head coach & T.V annalist predicted us to go to the NBA finals.

Coaching & 2-3 rotation players performing below average are to blame for aest years 1st round exit.

    Us.

It's not simply talent that we lost. With fewer playmakers (Parsons, Lin) on the floor Harden will have a heavier load to bear. Harden is already overworked. Harden and Howard are really the only guys on the floor who can create their own shot and create for others. Every single play will have to go through them. Ariza simply does not have the playmaker skill that Parsons had. Meanwhile without with a true backup Bev will have to play longer and harder. That may take a toll long term. Our second unit will suck this year. No Asik means the problem from pre-Dwight days will come back to haunt us...no rim protection with the second unit.

True, but they still would have made a big difference, while keeping Parsons, Asik, Lin and more talent around them too.

Parsons scored 16.5 ppg shooting near 50/40 %, he also got 5.5 boards and 4 assist, he isn't just okay at everything, he excels at everything bro.

We don't know exactly how well Ariza will play, and we have no clue what Papanikolaou will bring.

Harden defensive laps are a problem, but their a problem whether he has more talent around him or not, more talent only helps. Loosing Asik and our backup C to Dorsey does not help.

It looks worst on paper, sure. But honestly, I like the direction we are going by adding some defensive minded players in Ariza, Papa, Dorsey and Johnson. This team is still going to have a top offense but we are way more balanced than we were last year.

Losing Lin is big because he was our secondary ball handler and sixth man but he was a wash for most of the season. If Canaan or Johnson can shoot the ball at a high clip, losing Lin won't hurt as much.

I like Ariza for Parsons since Ariza is a much better defender and knows he role on this team aka spot up shooter and lockdown defender.

Asik is a huge lost but even then he missed half of last season and we were better when he didn't play.

Papa has to be better than the crap that was Casspi and Garcia, by default.

Harden is improving as is Jones, Dmo, Canaan (based on SL play) and Howard is hungrier than ever. Plus, we have the cap room and trade pieces to make a move when the time is right.

I fully believe that by the end of the season, we will be much better, more balanced than last year's squad.

Again, Parsons has good allround numbers but that's not what we need. We already have a primary ballhandler in Harden and enough offensive potential and rebounding. The main weakness of this team was above average defense on the perimeter and wings, that's exactly what Ariza and Pap bring to this team and what makes them a better fit than Parsons and Garcia.

We don't need someone that takes the ball away from Harden and Dwight and gives them less touches, a 3&d wing is exactly what we lacked and what Morey tried to change.

We may have less "talent" now as you say, but what remains to be unseen is if the new team can work together as a team and play both sides of the ball. Team defense.
