Probably has to do with what he did with his money after he was a player.

Hakeem made a fortune in real estate I believe.

    Edit: Yes... he did.

Dream just knows how to manage money.

Which sadly isn't the same for many other players:

Making a 100 millions dollars in profit is a lot more then just managing money. Tons of rich people fail to do as well as he has done. Don't under sell dreams accomplishment here.

Besides teaching players how to play in the post, he can also guide them on how to have long-term financial success/ stability.

one would think... but I don't think he's a wise businessman (completely based on personal opinion ). I've always thought KD is an idiot

Hakeem also saved a lot of money by never going to the booty clubs.

Good thing he played for the Rockets and not the Pistons...

Also interesting is the tidbit that he does not pay or charge interest because it's against his religion.

In talking with Dream and those he's close to in the Houston community, the guy has built so much equity and good will with people everywhere. This may be stating the obvious, but the Rockets absolutely adore him and his presence. He's a great man of faith. I will say Leslie texted him with an offer of $50k per month to just be associated with the team and be around the guys when he's in Houston, so he's still making ample money as a retired player.

Yup...Interest is forbidden in Islam. Tough attempting to purchase a home for most middle income Muslims.

I always wondered if it is forbidden for Muslims to pay interest, because the Jews own all the banks.

He got paid 107 million (including the 17+ million he stole from Toronto :p) and made 93+ million.

Jimmy Jackson did well in real estate too, bought up a bunch of land in the Knox Henderson area of Dallas when it was nothing.

Buy property in areas not populated mainly by people employed by manufacturing jobs (i.e. Detroit) and you will always do well.......I kid I kid.

    Thread title is misleading.

He was actually underpaid. He would have made a lot more if he was not underpaid and was more marketable (endorsements etc.)

Most of his fortune came by making money outside of NBA via his business.
