I just saw "Violet Palmer announces" under the abbreviated posts on the Index and got excited it was about her retiring.

Guess that explains her terrible officiating, she's a man hater ;) This is not good news for people wanting her to retire, the NBA will keep her at all cost now..maybe she even announced it because people were starting to see her for the incompetent ref she is.
I think a woman should never referee a man's game and the other way around too.

Good for her to announce it, but she still sucks as a referee

Another person trying to cash in on being the next Jason Collins of their field. Meh. All I know is she is a terrible official. All that I care about her retirement.

A lot of people think "who cares? it's not a big deal anymore" but that is so wrong. There are still a lot of anti gay rights people out there who are really cruel.

Last week I had to deal with someone cyber bullying a friend of mine because he was gay. The attacker was taking my friends' private pictures (he had a public photobucket account that he stupidly filled with 'personal' pictures) and using them to harass my friend. The bully claimed gay's were ruining the world to justify these actions. He also claimed allowing gay marriage was the first step to allowing murder.

There are still a lot of bigots these days, so stories where people are brave enough to come out is encouraging. We still have a long way to go, even though our society has come around for the most part.

    Water announces it is wet.

Actually good for her only in the sense that it's even news when she announces it. Maybe one of these days this particular brand of news will no longer be news.

But will anyone be surprised? Other than maybe her husband...

"We don't care" because it's not a big deal to most of us if anyone is gay/lesbian any more. If you are, good for you. If you aren't, good for you too.

That is not to say we don't stand up for anyone getting harassed/bullied because they're gay/lesbian.

There's still a large part of the US that doesn't accept it. And most of the rest of the world.
