Going to New Orleans for my birthday this friday. Wondering whats an excellent eatery and or strip club around the french quarter. Thank you in advance.
Very many places to eat, depending upon your budget. If you can do Brennan's for Brunch...that's a must. For something moderate for lunch in the French Quarters with very cool atmosphere, I always recommend Napolean House on Chartres, for a Muffaletta. http://www.napoleonhouse.com/ Of course, the classic Muffaletta is Central Grocery, but that's not as fun to sit and eat as Napolean's And of course Cafe Du Monde for Beignets for breakfast. Also, the Temple U area is another great place for moderately priced cajun/creole. Jacques-Imo's. But you'll have to take a short taxi from the Quarters to there.
Penthouse. Hands down the best. Trust me. Its funny how the placement of strip clubs are on bourbon. That street is lined with nothing but bars and t*tties and it starts with Penthouse and gradually gets worse and worse the further away you get from that penthouse starting point.
Strip clubs in New Orleans suck compared to Texas. Total ripoff. Check out Dooky Chase's for lunch. It's a soul food lunch buffet that is amazing. Pho Tau Bay has awesome Vietnamese food and they're open for breakfast! Nothing to beat a hangover like a hot bowl of pho.
Thank you to all the great replies. I will definitely check out most of the places y'all recommended to me. This will be my first time stepping into New Orleans. I will be staying at the W.
It's your bday? Hire a parade to follow you around. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/zXvJqiyiMqQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Off Bourbon st. stuff- -Dragos - If you do a nice sit down dinner. Its right next to Harrahs. Best oysters you will ever eat. Which leads to me to... -Harrahs- Stop in for a hand. Tons of blackjack tables, but gotta warn you. 15 buck min is as low as it gets. Still one of the better casinos outside of Vegas. -Cafe Du Monde- You have to stop in and get a Beignet after dinner. They are pretty amazing, and New Orleans staple. -Take a trolly through the Garden District. -Drinking stuff- -First of all- Bourbon st. is what it is. Don't feel like that's the only place to go. That being said -Pat Obriens - known for the Hurricane. Although I think of it as a glorified/overpriced Cape Cod. -Absinth house- Historic building/bar. Just really cool spot to soak in some history and really feel New Orleans -Bourbon st. random bars- There are what seems like 1000 dumpy bars on bourbon street. Most are trashy and nothing special, but don't always feel like you gotta go where the big crowds are. Sometimes you can interact with people and have a better time if you go up or down the street a little further to some of the less crazy bars. -strip clubs- Ricks is pretty clean, upscale, and they actually have no cover on off nights which is unheard of anywhere in the world for most like establishments -wierd sex sh#$- You'll find some crazy weird sex stuff. Like dwarf sex shows, and whatnot. Beware what place you go in. You might never feel the same. Have fun, and watch out for the Cops on Horseback. They don't F around.
Dobro1229- Thank you sir, for your in-depth analysis of what to eat and what to do. thank you, i appreciate all of it. I will have to wear my big boy pants
For heaven's sake, go listen to some jazz! Snug Harbor is a great place to go, at 626 Frenchman's Street. Check the schedule. One part of the very old club is a restaurant, another is a bar, and the other is an intimate place they call the Music Room. There are 2 floors, and if you can, sit on the ground floor. It's cabaret style. You sit at a table and a waitress comes by and takes your drink orders. The sound is great, and the odds are excellent that the music will be. Seats are general admission, and there are only 90 of them, but you can get tickets in advance to a particular show. Just show up early to get a good table. They usually have 2 shows a night. This is just one of many places in the French Quarter where you can listen to music, and New Orleans has given us some unforgettable experiences. Check it out.
