He signed for the min last year and did nothing to increase his value. He'll sign for the min here or elsewhere soon so there is zero reason to discuss sign and trade ideas.
Go ask Keith Bogans if HE had no reason to do a sign-and-trade to accommodate the Nets-Celtics trade last summer. Go look up the contract he got while not even being as good as Garcia is now.
y he no rocket? thanks a lot, murray! he is a shooter. i was expecting the spurs to pick him for the vets minimum.
If we lose him to the Jazz while signing three non-sense players instead of trying to see if Garcia wants to come back and show he can be that 2012-2013 guy a gain, I'm going to take my fandom elsewhere..
But Garcia is our designated hitter for our OKC games. He is horrible when he plays anyone else but against OKC, he is money!
You're completely right, though I'm speaking in the context of a team actually wanting his services, like Utah apparently.
Utah has a lot of cap space leftover this year to use if they want to. I'd be willing to bet as well that they have the youngest roster in the league if I'm not mistaken. They could very well give Garcia or another "locker room" type guy double what he's worth with the understanding of him being there to be someone that helps police the kiddos in the locker room. There is a lot of talk on here about Les/Morey having handshake deals under the table with guys like Garcia/Brooks etc. to opt out to give cap space, and then "make whole" later on. This just goes to show you that this is BS. Garcia opted out cause there was a chance at making a couple more bucks elsewhere even if Hou told him they would bring him back at the vet min anyways, and the same goes with Brooks last year. The Rockets probably had a handshake agreement with Parsons this Summer as well, and we see how that turned out for them. Players are going to get as much money as they can on the open market if let out of their contracts. Handshake deals don't really account for squat. Its a business.
If you're willing to end your "fandom" over not signing Francisco Garciathen you were never a fan at all.
How is it BS? The Rockets likely only promised the OPPORTUNITY to re-sign and be made whole in exchange for agreeing to opt out and create an extra $800k in cap room. The chance to potentially get more from another team was only added benefit to opting out. Win-win. This one is pretty easy, actually.
