Ariza in for Parsons and whoever we get as a backup to Howard will be a little drop off for the starting 3 and backup 5 but our most glaring need is also at the most important position and Llull could step in and immediately fix that. We have money and what we just learned was trying to pry other free agents away on max deals in tough. Yes we got Howard but Morey struck out this year. Even if we use the money with the assists and TPE if a star becomes available we can get him. Time to pay this kid he is in his prime. Spanoulis is the top PG in Europe, Lowry just got paid and Dragic is a baller, Beverley is a quality rotation player so I think our scouts can find PG's. Thoughts?
I repped you just for referencing VSpan!!! He was supposed to be the next Nash!! Grrr! Turned out to be TMac of Greece...best thing out of VSpan is I discovered spanakopita and souvlaki because of him!
I like how you start out with "we must get a back up for Howard" and then transition to sign an expensive backup PG who has never played in the big leauges and who might be an NBA rotation player at best.
Next year is probably the year & I think his buyout situation is much easier to deal with. Need to see what we have in Canaan, & Johnson first. Also need to see if Pat Bev grows as a player, and if he's going to command a huge pay day next Summer. I think Llull comes over for sure. He's really a perfect fit for this team, but you have to make sure there is a role for him. You can't spend big bucks to get him over here without a clear definition for that role.
How about them? Preferably ones that aren't under contract with other teams until 2020 with pricey buyouts.
Yup...we would just sign the whole Panathonaikos starting five! VSpan would be the face of the franchise!!! Put a statue of him right next to Dream. Food vendors in Toyota Center would all be Niko Niko's!!!... wouldn't be ALL bad!
Aside - I just noticed there is a fake version of DaDakota and myself arguing about Sergio Llull and Vasilis Spanoulis on a european basketball site comments page: http://www.ballineurope.com/europea...l-real-madrid-houston-rockets-extension-5234/ ... hahaha? I guess it's Rockets Dynasty/whatever he calls himself playing around...?
It's not about just spending the money. It's about handcuffing yourself in the future. We will forever be Round1-2 exiting playoff team til we can get that third monster piece. You spend that money on rigid contracts, ie, Parsons you are now a Round 1-2 Exiting Playoff team with no chance to improve...locked in to that mediocrity for years. Lull
Lull might be demanding too much money, I don't know -- but, if he and PopNickle are good NBA players and can be had at fair rates (even if large and long term contracts) then, much like Asik this offseason, their contracts can be offloaded if need be (or, packaged as part of a trade for a major player). Good players on fair contracts don't hurt flexibility, they help it. Now, Lull and Pumpernickel may be asking for too much money, or straight up refusing to come over, again, I don't know -- but, bringing them over is not inherently a danger to flexibility.
Didnt Clutch say that Llull wants to win a championship with Real Madrid before coming over to join the team.
