I don't see a problem with this. Everyone should have access to proper internet.

I'm guessing that this doesn't apply to those of us with our own (non-comcast) modems/routers?

It'll probably only be for Comcast subscribers, but private networks should not have to share their WiFi with outsiders.

If it's an automatic speed cap that doesn't affect one's regular download speeds, I'm ok with it. Regardless, broad WiFi won't sit well with mobile data providers.

If you have access to someone's wifi, couldn't you have access to everyone's email/pw's that uses that wifi?

As far as I can tell, no. I did notice an xfinitywifi in my connection list, but the signal is too weak to be coming from my modem (bought my own modem).

No. You need a Comcast login to be able to use it. You connect to the access point then it takes you to a Comcast website where you have to login.

I followed the instructions on the links and when I get to the Manage XFINITY WiFi popup window there is no option for me to disable. The popup window just has a short list of XFINITY WiFi pros. Tried in Chrome, IE and Firefox but the same thing. Does that mean it's not enabled under my account?

    Comcast should be sued.

Sure, this hotspot is not using any additional bandwidth that belongs to the customer. And sure, it has decent enough security.

However, there are two big issues.
    1) You are paying the electricity for this device. Not Comcast.
    2) As more people connect to your WiFi, this degrades your wireless signal. If youre in the other room with a mediocre connection and some jackhole uses the hotspot to stream his netflix, this will affect your connection.

They specifically addressed #2. And do modems/routers really use that much electricity? I haven't noticed any change in our electricity bills when we have family over for a week and we're all using the same connection.
