Berman: Casspi Invites Teammates to Train with Him in Israel, Dwight+Others Interested

HOUSTON (FOX 26) - Houston Rockets forward Omri Casspi has invited his entire team to join him in Israel this summer.

He told FOX 26 Sports center Dwight Howard, guards James Harden and Pat Beverley and forwards Chandler Parsons and Francisco Garcia have all expressed interest in working out with him in Israel.

"It would be phenomenal," Casspi said. "The country is going to go crazy."

The Houston Rockets talked a great deal on Monday about the team being on the same page heading into the 2014-2015 season.

Casspi believes a field trip to Israel can help.

"I invite everybody to be able to work out together in Israel," Casspi said. "It would be a great experience for them. The coaches there, they are going to come see them. It would be awesome."

Casspi said he told his teammates: "Come get a different feel, be in Israel a little bit. Come see my country where I'm from. Kind of get better bonding as a team."

And while no dates have been set yet, Casspi said a number of his Rockets teammates want to make the trip.

"Dwight is definitely interested," Casspi said. "Chandler said he's interested. James said he's interested, Cisco. Me and Cisco are very close friends

"Pat Beverley is going to come. So it's going to be fun."

Casspi said it will be important for the game of basketball in his home country to have his teammates come to Israel.

"On the basketball-side the coaches are going to learn a lot from them and their work ethic and how they do things," Casspi said.

The Rockets All-Star center is clearly ready to make the trip.

"I look forward to having a chance to get over there," Howard said. "I think it's important we build a bond off the court, understand people's background and where they came from.

"I think it will be great, a great experience for myself, my family, my friends, anybody who goes over there with me, but also for Omri. To show him that (friendship) is bigger than basketball. Basketball doesn't last that long.

"You want those friendships that can last forever."

Awesome, and when the summer ends that should just leave him behind. Casspi belongs in Israel all right, playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv

This is sort of like last year's preseason trip to Taiwan. Casspi says, if Lin can do it, then so can I. Next year the Rockets go to Turkey, and then after that they go to Lithuania. Wait...does Casspi's teammates actually believe that Casspi will be a Rocket next year?

Seriously though, Israel isn't exactly the safest place in the world. Especially with the immense publicity them going to Israel would bring.

i don't think it's any more dangerous than driving around houston.

unless you like the beach though, summertime's too hot there. they should go to vilnius with dmo instead.

its not bad, esp. where casspi will be.

ive been a couple times...you can easily stay away from violence.
