Talk about the series here. Please no PBP in this thread. Unless otherwise noted all games are on CSN-H (for about 40% I guess). 4-21 Dallas Keuchel, LHP vs. Felix Hernandez, RHP 9:10 4-22 Scott Feldman, RHP vs. Erasmo Ramirez, RHP 9:10 4-23 Jarred Cosart, RHP vs. Chris Young, RHP 2:40
I'm so depressed about this offense right now. I hope they can bust out like they did last year in Seattle.
They can't possibly keep hitting under .200 as a team...right? They have to come out of it at some point...don't they?
Hitting will probably eventually come around... but knowing this team's "luck", that will be when the improved starting pitching potentially starts to go south. I just want to see disciplined play (which doesn't take talent). Minimize base-running errors. Avoid mix-ups on fielding plays between our sub-par 1B's and pitchers. Avoid cross-ups between the catcher and pitcher (especially on bases loaded situations). Have the manager re-evaluate this bullpen and stop randomly bringing in the worst possible candidates to close games in this closer-by-committee situation (Chapman last week, and a recovering Qualls on Saturday). When this team has only one or two potential save opportunities/week... you gotta make those count! In the mean-time, lets continue to see Singleton and Correa smash the ball, and start getting some quality starts behind Folty and Appel. As long as there's "optimism" from the minors, I can pretty much withstand anything at the major league level.
Its interesting psychology that a really bad team trending upwards in many ways is preferable to a good team trending downwards.
I wouldn't say preferable. A bad team with potential in the minors is tolerable... but I'd still rather watch a legitimate MLB team day-in/day-out. Watching Carter swing and miss at pitches down the middle is certainly not preferable at this time.
Were the 2006 Astros funner to watch? Yes But if you knew what you do now, would you rather be in 2006 or 2014? I'd prefer the 2014 club.
Just to post the numbers: 39K's in 28IP. I have him on my fantasy team, and he has been untouchable in the first three go arounds on the lineup. I would set the line at 13.5 if I was looking at K's for the Astros tonight, and I don't see tonight going too much differently (12, 12, 13, 9, 6, 9 being the strike out totals from the past 6 games).
