    I know a forum is generally more geared towards negativity. So it's hard to tell how fans actually feel here in GARM since we tend to vent about things we dislike more than express our satisfaction over success.

    But what truly makes you happy for following the team?

    For me it's mainly the hope of winning a championship. It doesn't have to be legit, but it had to be at least plausible. Meaning I'm okay with having teams on par with the better Yao/T-Mac years even if it's not the Heat. If the team's losing, I need hope of a better future, either through the lottery or other means. Although the last time that has happened was the Gay/Battier trade season.

    For me the worst seasons are the ones where I see no hope. 2011 was such a season. As were any of the years Yao or T-Mac went down with injuries. Before that, the years when it seemed Francis was never going to grow and Eddie Griffin looked like a bust.

    In order of importance:
    1: Chance of winning a championship
    2: Chance of having a young player developing into a superstar
    3: Winning games
    4: Having superstar players
    5: Playing beautiful basketball

    I just like to watch teams that consistently play with effort and are well coached. Coaching is important to me because it means the play on the court is intelligent and players are put into positions to succeed.

    What truly makes me happy as a basketball fan is when you put good team effort with good coaching, because then this means that the players and the team are the best they can be! To me, this is what the goal should be for any team, whether they are a middling team, true contenders or young guys still finding their place in the league and on the team. It's the definition of leaving it all on the court, both in brains, blood, sweat and tears.

    Very similar to this but in different orders:
    1. Always about winning the Championship!
    3. I don't care how just win win win.
    5. Even if we lose I still want to watch beautiful basketball games.
    2. Getting a superstar is great but making a superstar from a rookie is even better.
    4. If you don't get any of the above you would wish your team is NY+Melo. His 62 points career high a couple of days ago was awesome. Too bad the Knicks is not going anywhere.

    It doesn't matter where the team stands:

    1. Progress, progress, and progress
    2. Ball movement and plays like a team
    3. Valuable of assets and picks for future upgrades
    4. chemistry among players and coaches
    5. Every players out-plays his contract value

    If a team has all of the above, winning comes easier and we have championship hope.

    I hate losing...but I hate it more when we don't play up to expectations. In saying that, I love my Rockets and feel blessed that I'm able to watch them play via the Internets.

    I love the pursuit of a Championship.
    I love seeing the team chemistry forming.
    I love when we win.
    I love watching rookies grow.
    I love when our 3 ball drops.
    &
    I love my Rockets.

    The no.1 thing for me is watching fringe players/rookies grow and prosper. It eclipses even a win IMO (unless its a rivalry win)

    I have never experienced a championship so i can't comment on that, the feeling is literally unimaginable to me. Hopefully this changes shortly

    I just like basketball. I like seeing players develop. I like seeing little moves and tricks that i remember from older players show up in newer players arsenals.

    There was a time when I was heavily invested in a team's success, winning some playoff series would make me go celebrate and do stupid stuff with friends, and losing would get me upset, I would get disinterested in basketball for months sometimes.

    But at this point I just enjoy the game and I'm more of a general basketball fan.

    A lot of people here question my fandom.
    I'm that guy that gets on your ass ,question you, criticize you, push you, till I see you succeed, even if you hate me.

    Live in N. Texas and been a fan since Moses, so...

    It can't be championships that keeps me here.
    It can't be the winning.
    It can't be the players or coaches.
    It can't be for the love of a city (haven't lived there since the 80s)
    It can't be CFs.

    I chose the Rockets when I realized everybody in America was a fan of some sports team. Yeah, it took 3 years of picking a team and city, but when I did...

    So to answer your query, and as of this moment, LOYALTY. Everything else is just icing.

    1. Winning
    2. Winning
    3. Winning

    Everything else (chemistry, players developing, in season storylines) are the cherry on top. I love going into a game thinking, "Wow, our team is good"

    I have no link to the city, I grew up in North Jersey (still live there now), I'm in my twenties but didn't become a fan until around 2000/2001 so I don't have any recollection of championships. I just love that this team, year in and year out, is always competitive. I don't know what I'd do if I was a fan of the bobcats, kings etc. who year in and year out just suck. I get very passionate about each and every game (it's hard not to haha)

    consistency on effort in O and D all night..whether we win or lose;
    good record;
    all the players contributing (veterans and young guys);
    a good coach that can devise creative plays and be able to be executed by the players.
