Although where is it reported? It's not on their Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/Horns247 Edit: Never mind, didn't realize that guy was affiliated.

Nice. The only guys I really had above him on my board were the pie in the sky type hires (Fisher, Harbaugh, etc...). When it became clear those guys weren't happening, he and David Shaw were probably my top choices. Good recruiter, assembled great defenses at Florida, and is supposedly big on academics and running a clean program. Get him a strong OC, a well-known Texas HS football coach, and I think we are in business. Will be curious to see the $ figures on this deal. Hope we hear some of the details behind all of the goings-on over the past month as well.
big time fallback option. No Saban, No Harbaugh, No Briles, No Jimbo... Strong only had a couple good years and that was after he plucked a premium QB prospect and plopped him into Big East/AAC competition leaving Louisville at a very opportune time -- losing Bridgewater and they're heading to the much tougher ACC conference...
Texas needs to get back to playing Texas D, and this guy will recruit and bring it. He's also loved my all of his players and he's getting a rep for it in the HS ranks which will only help recruit to Texas. I just pray he gets a strong OC and can handle the pressure of being the HC here.
He's like the anti-mack. Hates media, great talent at evaluation, great x's & o's knowledge, plays best player regardless of age. Best option behind the Harbaugh's and Saban.
My guess is that the cigars got tired of being embarrassed by coaches turning them down so they went for the quick sure thing, even if it meant not fully pursuing Jimbo or the Harbaughs

His track record as a head coach is just not that good. A couple nice seasons in a bad conference....and those seasons are largely attributable to one great recruit (although credit to him for getting Bridgewater). He may turn out to be good, but it's not without risk. He's more of an unknown than the other options presented.
Awesome. I liked Strong as a candidate. I think he was the next best option after that tier 1 of coaches (Saban, Jimbo, etc.).
Thanks for the insight, man. I've always looked to Rice fans to understand how big-time college football hires are made.
Pretty sure they new either Harbaugh was a dream. Jimbo has an amazing class coming in and he laid the foundation for much more playing in the ACC especially if the SEC keeps coming back down to earth. The 'Noles will pretty much be a lock for preseason polls and throughout the season no matter who they play. Kinda like Texas every year, and especially this year when Texas was ranked 8th coming into the season and those in the know LOL'd hard at that.
