I just got a Linksys Ethernet Cable/DSL router and have set it up to share my RR internet between 2 computers (1 running win '98 and the other running win2k profesional) When I go to network places and open computers near me I see both of my PCs but I am unable to share files between the 2 of them. If somebody could please explain how to do this to me that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

hey johnny,

it sounds like you might not have file sharing turned on. On the 98 machine, go to control panel networking and check your properties for Microsoft Networking. On Win2k pro, go to control panel and Network and Dial-up Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection to verify those proporties as well.

I'm pretty sure File Sharing is not on by default for either one. I'd also advise checking the Linksys website for any warnings about how best to protect File Sharing machines from exposure to evil creepy crawly things out on the internet.

Crispee is right about file sharing, but you do not need to worry about LInksys and security, linksys routers act as a firewall, and assign internal IP addresses to your machines.
