With the offseason decision on Schuab looming, I was thinking how that decision could effect Tate/Foster. If the Texans move on and are able to sign maybe Cutler or maybe Freeman, that would surely be a win now move and with the cap jostling we would have to do, we would surely let Tate walk and keep Foster. Now what if we recreate the Schaub trade and Kubes calls his buddy in Wash and they compete a trade for Cousins. Now as much as a "win now" trade Culter is, Cousins would make the Tate decision a little different. Going into next season Foster will be 28 and Tate 26. Foster has not been as dynamic the last year and a half. Granted Tate fumbles a little more, he seems to have a little more pep in his step this year than Foster. With Cousins our window wouldn't be just win right now, so if the cap situation with Fosters contract isnt crazy would it make more sense to cut Foster and keep Tate if we move on with a younger QB?

Sorry but no, first off Foster is a better player than Tate and is already on the books. Tate has a pep in his step because it's a contract year and he will leave most likely to Cleveland for a large contract. He's proven every year he can't stay healthy even in a backup role. I don't really need to state what Foster is capable of but he has another 2-3 solid years ahead of him, enough time to find another solid back if we don't already have one in Cierre Wood.

As far as QB is concerned, Freeman won't ever happen, he'll bounce between sub .500 teams for the rest of his career which is most likely 3 more years. Cutler is intriguing but that's if Chicago lets him walk, doubtful they don't have a replacement and spent years trying to find a qb period. Cousins is a solid player and I like him, but as far as betting he's a franchise qb is too much of a gamble. Washington will ask too much for a trade, and he's their insurance plan. Better to use those picks to move up in this years solid qb class. Shaub has to continue to spiral for them to make a move, and I'm hoping so to force their hand. I can't really see Rick Smith or Kubiak giving the reigns to a rookie, or even using a high pick on one. Shaub's fate is in his own hands, maybe Kubiaks as well, along with a Smith decision on a future qb. These next few weeks should be interesting.

Why do people want Tate to be better than Foster so badly? It's so damn weird.

Has anybody watched Foster the past 2 games? He's kind of a crapload better than Tate, and like all but a couple other running backs on the planet.

Why would Washington trade Cousins for Schaub?

I think it is more of the offensive line and running back combination if Tate and Foster get more yards. Status quo, at least, is what that seems like, because even though Schaub throws for 350+, we're not being respected as a passing team and Foster and Tate will be still regarded as a mean two-headed running monster machine.

Also did you mean affect (commonly a verb) in this case?

The pep in Tate's step is just the way he has always run...Foster has never been a "bust through the line with blazing speed" type of player. Foster waits for his blocks and dances his way through...that's his style. It might not look as fun as Tate barreling through, but it still works.

I play golf with a die hard Bears fans; he'd trade Cutler for Schaub in a nanosecond. They don't like Cutler up there at all.

And that's the really sad thing about this: if they can't salvage Schaub, this window is essentially closed. They could get lucky... but finding a QB good enough to win 10+ games in the NFL.... it ain't easy.

Basically with the Houston fan base especially, where Earl Campbell is still probably the most beloved offensive player to ever play professional football for the town, people want more of a big bruiser Running back that plows through tackles rather then a jack of all trades with a glide step that Foster is known as. It is strange because with Foster's ability to actually make people miss, catch the ball and field vision it is obvious he is the best RB on our roster but fans can be dumb and fall for the "new new" if they think things are going sour fast.

But yeah, cutting Foster is stupid especially for Tate, who while good hasn't been able to really keep up with what Foster brings to the field at full strength on his best days besides a big run once every other game.

Also Kirk Cousins isn't a starting QB.

Most fans are convinced that their QB is the worst QB in the NFL when he isn't playing particularly well. Passionate fans have a tendency to delve into hyperbole when things aren't going well. The grass is always greener, I suppose.

Oct. 29 is the trade deadline and if the Texans aren't trying to find a buyer for Schaub (insert laughter here) then they are more incompetent than we think.

For god's sake stop the non-sense about Tate being better Foster, Foster on his bad days is a better RB and better receiver than Tate.
