This is his 4th DC job since 2004 (Oak, Cle, Dal, and NO) and none of his defenses have ever made the playoffs. Why does he keep getting hired and why do they constantly focus on him on the sideline during games?
I don't think you can blame Cleveland or Oakland not making the playoffs on his defenses. They have far bigger problems. The better question would be how do their defenses do compared to the previous seasons? Does he bring improvement? Make them worse? (I have no idea)
Dallas was struck by the injury bug on D last season and if he can do anything with all the scrubs on the Saints defense it would be a miracle. The saints might have one guy on their entire defense who would start over anyone on the Texans D. I don't even know who that player is, but whoever plays inside LB for them could potentially start over Mays.
He probably will soon, but unlike Rob, Rex has at least had success in the past. Rob has never done anything. Just living off his last name, I suppose.
He took on a last place defense with the Saints. I don't think its fair to judge a DC on whether the team makes the playoffs or not.
But in this case, unless Drew Brees goes down, they're not going to miss the playoffs because of the offense.
Sure - but if he takes the #32 defense that just lost a couple of players this week and makes them, say, #25 and they still miss the playoffs, did he do a bad job?
He has just never done anything to distinguish himself (or his defenses) in his career as a DC. It was nothing special in Oakland, Cleveland or dallas. He may not be Frank Bush, but his resume just isn't that impressive. Certainly not impressive enough to cut to a camera shot of him after every single defensive play. They did that during cowboy games and now they're doing it again during Saints games. Ultimately not a big deal to me. Just seems odd.
Certainly true - but it seems hiring of retread, mediocre coaches is common in the NFL. No idea why he's given so much attention, though.
Bc Rob is related to Rex...and now ask me why Rex Ryan still has a job??? cause he "sittin sideways..." Spoiler
I think he pretty much was the scapegoat in Dallas last season. Everyone knows the real problem with that team is Jerry Jones. And it seems like he's been put in pretty bad situations to succeed, but NO might give him that chance if he's allowed several years to build his defense. But it is odd that they always cut to him. I remember when he was in Oakland the commentators would joke about him wearing tshirts on the sideline or something. I guess there was nothing better to talk about.
When Rex Ryan gets fired, Texans should consider him as Wade's successor. Could do some serious damage with Watt, Cushing, Reed, Merciless and Swearinger in a 46 defense.
Not right away. Rex's inability to control the Jets lockerroom from day 1 of being hired is a huge indictment of his leadership ability.
