So Im guessing players like KG and DeAndre won't be involved? And why wouldn't the celtics take this? Don't think Doc would want to return anyway
They will take it if the story is true. Ainge would be completely nuts to turn this down. The Celts make out like bandits here. Perhaps they can complete the KG trade a week or so from now, after the draft and the beginning of free agency.

Clippers, Celtics are agreeing upon a 2015 unprotected first-round pick, league source tells Y! If the league doesn't let KG go to LA I think he oughta simply retire and out the league office for this bologna. Obvious hall-of-famer at the end of the road, they had a legit trade, could have easily been redone so that Doc goes for draft pick and then KG goes for Deandre and draft pick. The league office and Stern are simply throwing their weight around too much here. Trade is being redone to appease them. It's all semantics. If they shut down KG to LAC, I hope he simply retires and makes a very public statement about the league office interfering in the close out of his career. The league has made it's point. Enough is enough. Let the trades go through now or be stupid about it. There is absolutely no way the league can police this stuff. Too many private conversations that are unverifiable. The league has confessed they cannot stop the players from talking amongst themselves. They also cannot stop GMs from talking amongst themselves also. It's ridiculous that just because information (most of it false) gets in the media that the league is playing this out this way. It's an extreme overreach. And now they're messing with the end of future hall-of-famer's careers. It's too much.
How is offering a pick NOT involving players in the transaction to obtain a coach? This is against league bylaws isn't it? Don't see any way around it.
That was a trade deadline deal for the draft held during that season. This is an offseason deal for a draft two seasons out.
does this make anyone here nervous? It does to me! CP stays in LA, S&T Blake for Dwight, ( I think Lakers can do that, if under apron, i forget.) If CP stays, we got to somehow make dwight understand LA clips are worse then Houston with him, or convince that we are bringing in Jsmoove or iggy.
It seemingly takes away Paul's leverage, though. I doubt Rivers, given his power, would agree to go to the Clippers without a commitment from Paul. And if he gets that commitment, there is no way the Clippers (Sterling in particular) would give up Griffin. Not unless Paul is pointing a gun at their head, and that possibility may be out the window.
Damn, Doc is worth a full non protected pick? KG and Pierce (if they end up in LAC) will both probably be retiring that year, and the Clip will wish they had the pick for either a trade or to use.
Ok, but does adding doc rivers make LA automatic western conference champions? reason i suggest this is because as of right now how does adding Doc give them more of a chance to succeed, + Dwight Paul > Blake Paul.
Re-read the last tweet that J.R. referred to and my previous comment. It's a FUTURE first-round pick, meaning we don't actually know who the Celtics will ultimately wind up selecting with it at this point, which puts the league office on much shakier legal ground as far as being able to reject the deal for CBA-related reasons. The closest precedent to this is when the Rockets offered a 2005 1st round draft pick to the Knicks as compensation for hiring Jeff Van Gundy in 2003 (that pick ultimately became Nate Robinson, most famous for starting arguably the second-worst brawl in NBA history), which sailed through the league office with no trouble.

Sources confirmed on Sunday afternoon that the "final touches" of a three-year, $21 million contract were being put together, with a first-round pick as compensation for the Boston Celtics, who have agreed to release Rivers from the three years, $21 million he has remaining on his deal with the club. ... Team sources confirmed Ainge has also been trying to secure a first-round pick for veteran Paul Pierce, who can be bought out by June 30 for $5 million. The Celtics have been unsuccessful thus far, leaving open the possibility they keep Pierce and his $15.3 million contract on their books, and attempt to deal him again at the trading deadline next winter, when teams historically look for veteran help and are willing to overpay. League and teams sources also confirmed that for now, any deal involving Garnett and the Clippers is on hold in light of commissioner David Stern's objections to the appearance that the KG deal (for DeAndre Jordan) and Rivers were related. The Celtics have a press conference scheduled for noon on Monday, where, sources said, Rivers is expected to explain his decision to leave Boston after nine seasons.
