Not sure if this has been discussed before, but what about signing up Greg Oden on the CHEAP (league minimum or close to it) to be our backup center? It's a pretty low risk/high reward situation if we could sign him up, and if he could stay healthy for a bit, he could be a nice defensive presence to give Asik (or Howard) a blow every now and then without our defense completely falling apart. The likelihood of him staying fit is probably not high, but if we could sign him for cheap would you go for it?
Ah, it'd be hard to convince him to come here when Miami can bargain with the promise of championships.
How long since his last NBA game? I assume he's accumulated a lot of fat since then and would be incredibly rusty. We also have to consider that he's probably aged 15 years since we saw him last.
if Morey goes through with his plan for signing several one year guaranteed deals, Oden could make sense depending what the doctors say
I haven't seen Oden since he retired, but supposedly he has stayed invert good shape and he and his trainer planned on letting enough time go by that he has a better shot of being healthy. Right now he is out of the league because of strategy, not because no one wants to give him a shot.
30 teams in the NBA would be interested in a healthy Greg Oden on a minimum contract. If, If and If... Nah mean???
Why not? It worked out so well for the T-Wolves when they signed Brandon Roy on the cheap and had him healthy for five game.
And we are afraid of Bynum; Oden is made of glass? How many games did Asik miss because of injury. He is a refreshing change after what we went through during the Yao era. I loved Yao and he was highly skilled, but he just couldn't stay on the court. Oden is far worse, injury wise. For minimal money he may be worth a shot, but not to replace Asik.
Interesting. Still though, strategy or not, I would think staying out of the league for too long will make teams more hesitant to sign him. But then again, the Heat are interested.
Roy was in pretty good shape going into camp last year. Playing well enough to where some people thought it might work. Then he banged knees with someone in an exhibition game and lasted only 5 games into the season before he was toast. The (sarcastic) point of my post is that the same thing is very likely to happen with Oden.
for a minimum, he's a low risk, potential high reward guy. seriously, if this guy could even play 40 games and the playoffs for like 10-13 mpg at the level he played at in those 21 games earlier in his career..he'd tremendously improve a team. that being said, i figure everyone would go after him with a minimum. but that's an absolute best case scenario, which means any more money would be a definite risk. and if we're just talkin mins...there are better options for him.
