Simple Question, Who would you perfer on this Texans team and why?

Sorry, i get the fact that we have only lost 3 games, and that the defense got torched in all of them, but the offense didn't produce ***** either. Matt Schaub is not elite, and he is starting to show that he is just another quarterback in the league.

Only thing Alex Smith has on Schaub is mobility, and it isn't great.

You already made a thread about this same topic.

Alex Smith can't throw a deep ball any better then Schaub, heck he is probably worst, so really no point in even entertaining the idea since it isn't a upgrade at all in the QB position.

You don't want Alex Smith - he's the classic game manager. Can't stretch defenses the way Schaub does, and is the master of the check down.

Smith would've looked even ****tier than Schaubby. Next.

    Kerry Collins or Matt Schaub?

Makes no sense. Why would I want Alex Smith over Shaub? Screw that, give me their O-line. Their entire O-Line is either starting or reserves Pro Bowl.

Maybe Matt Barkley will drop to the end of the first round. Texans have other needs they should focus on, but at some point you have to address QB.. not just because of Schaub's recent iffy play and general iffy play when he isn't getting great o-line protection... but because he's older and his upside is his upside.

Matt Schaub needs better protection, Arian need to gain more YPC, we could replace them both OR we could look to upgrade the right side of the line.

David Carr was more mobile than Schaub look where that got us, up until last season Alex Smith was SF's David Carr.

THE TEXANS HAVE BIG PROBLEMS, QB is not one of these, he could be better but so could anyone not nameD JJ WATT or Andre Johnson at this point. He is a game manager who needs protection to be able to properly manage, Brady he is not, Manning he is not, Rogers he is not.

But, he is every bit as capable, he is probably more capable, of running the team than Alex Smith has ever or will ever be.

The offense has fallen off the 'fiscal cliff' in terms of production when compared to last year, what changed?

    WHAT CHANGED, WHAT CHANGED?

    The offensive line, of course.

But that doesn't mean you look past Schaub. I think the point of the thread (though a repetitive thread) was is Alex Smith a better option than Schaub. The consensus seems to be no... but I think it at least a valid question. Schaub is as unproven as any quarterback in the playoffs, and will continue to be until he gets his chance.

The big issue will clearly be his protection. Cause if they can protect well, run decently and script a good gameplan, Schaub is great. But in the playoffs, especially deep in the playoffs, that gets harder and harder.

Can Schaub improvise enough, move the pocket enough, etc. against great teams to move the chains and score points, especially if the running game is having just an "ok" day? I think he can, but he doesn't always.

I'm not a Schaub hater, or lover. He is what he is. Against the Pats they moved the ball ok, then would get stalled on 3rd/4th and 5ish, and Schaub frankly made a couple of decent plays on the 4th downs that just didn't work out.

Does anybody have dropped passes stats by game? Sure hand Owen seems to have dropped more than his fair share recently, for example.

I'm not putting this all on Schaub, but some of it clearly is. And if there is an opportunity to upgrade, even a little bit, even if only to get a comparable but younger quarterback, it certainly merits discussion. Not that Smith is that guy...

Did you think you'd get a different answer by starting the same thread twice?

    The answer is still Schaub.

No disrespect Jay but it's a very stupid question, a very very stupid question when you consider that A) Schaub's not going anywhere for atleast the rest of next season minimum and B) some jackhole (no nescessarily the OP) is going to post the same thread using any available QB in place of Smith for the nexst year.

When you consider that, it's the most invalid and asinine question there is, somebody post a link of the RGs and RTs that will be avaiable this offseason, and then someone post how they could make it work under the cap. That's a valid question, the QB is duscussion is completely invalid.

If the Texans have a better quarterback, regardless of what happens to the O-line, I think everyone would agree they have a better shot of winning the Superbowl.

There is a thread in the GARM about selling high on Asik. Maybe it's not the best comparison, from an importance of position perspective, but it's the same idea. If you can upgrade, you upgrade.

Maybe it's a comparatively stupid question when you plug in Alex Smith as the upgrade, or you consider the real availability of an upgrade, or the cost of or likelihood of really upgrading there (especially in light of the recent extension) versus the cost/likelihood of upgrading RT or RG.

I don't watch enough of Alex Smith to know what he's good/not good at. I know he was managing the heck out of the 49ers. But I also know a relatively good/great coach basically benched him in favor of an unproven young player on a team capable of winning the superbowl.

Alex Smith won a playoff game for his team last year. Not like Yates did - he was actually one of the main reasons if not the main reason his team advanced.
