Tonights game is a classic example: Chandler Parsons 34min 10 Rbds Terrence Jones 29min 8 Rbds Gregory Smith 15min 8 Rbds Omer Asik 28min 7 Rbds Jeremy Lin 32min 6 Rbds Mook Morris 30min 4 Rbds Toney Douglas 15min 2 Rbds James Harden 17min 2 Rbds Cole Aldrich 1:31min 1 Rbd and then we have Patrick Patterson 20min 1 Rbd I like the guy, and I think that he has a sweet outside jumpshot. He is money from 15 feet, but 1 rebound? seriously 1 rebound? Cole Aldrich played a minute and grabbed 1 rebound. He is 6'9" and 235lbs...he has a career rebounding average of 4.3, per 36 is only 7.3! He doesn't block shots, he doesn't get to the free throw line and the myth that he plays good defence is just perpetuated to make us long suffering fans feel better. The questions I pose are these: Is Patrick Patterson the answer at Power Forward? Is his sweet stroke from 15 feet away good enough to keep him in the role as our starting 4? What do we do with Pat? 6th man? Trade him? Move him to the 3? Continue to play him? I am lost for words. The guy is trying out there, and he can put points on the board, but we are asking to much of the other guys, especially Asik, to compensate on the boards for Pat's lack of production in that area. Your thoughts on this dilemma...
Pat is a one trick pony. That little 15 foot jumper is money but he can't hit the 3 and will not go to the paint. And yes his defense is not as good as some insist.
Patterson is a solid player. If he were on a contending team he'd be a great addition IMO. Like the Bulls or something. He'd come off the bench, get a few points. Stretch the defense out a bit and maybe play harder. But he's a big trade candidate I feel. Too many young PFs on the team to keep him even on the bench.
Patterson does get blocked shots. However, he is soft on the offensive end, shies away from contact, prefers taking that short jumper instead of going for a dunk or layup. The number of times he's been to the freethrow line frankly is rather unacceptable. I do think he's a solid player and might do well on another team, but for this team we need someone at that spot who is not afraid of doing the dirty work.
I love his offensive game. Only player on this team with some semblance of a consistent post game and jump shot.
IMO, what Patterson lacks is that mental edge. He's kind of similar to Battier in this regards, way too eager to settle being mediocre. Makes you wonder if he learned too much from Scola in being a finesse guy with no power.
Why is that a myth? It is a FACT that he plays good defence. It has been shown consistently through PnR and in post defence. The defensive let downs the past threeish games have been everybody, not just him. Criticize the rebounding all you want, but defensively, he is more than solid.
I thought Utah built that lead from 3 to 15 was because of Pat. His defense was really poor. He was supposed to procted the paint and they had like 3 layups and he got beaten twice when his man outran him. He got outrebounded just by pure hustle few times also.
I don't understand what this trend of calling ppat a good defender came from. He frequently makes defensive errors by not being in the right place and seemingly wanders off from where he's suppose to be for absolutely no reason. Also, by having piss poor def. rebounding makes him a poor defender as well (yes defensive rebounding is part of the defense). Like I said in another thread, trade this double roll toilet paper for someone with a backbone, or just play Terrence Jones or Morris.
A PF who is not willing or able to rebound is not a real PF. Not only that, he has no inside moves, which coupled with our offensive-challenged, albeit great, great defensive center, means that we have no inside game. No way this can continue without adversely affecting our team's chances of winning.
If he was twp inches taller and gave a damn about rebounding he'd be a top 10 pf. This team regularly gets roasted by teams with size and people still call him a great defender. Don't understand why. He is unable to guard guys like Gasol and Aldridge at all.
He could be productive on another team where he fits better, not he's not what the Rockets need at PF.
